We took our son to the emergency room here. We were sent over from urgent care due to the concern of possible appendicitis. While there, it seemed like they kept trying to dismiss all of his symptoms. They did do an x-ray eventually, and we were told they could not find his appendix but they were not concerned everything else looked fine. To me that was red flag number 1. The doctor came to us and said that it's probably a virus because he wasn't acting like other children do when they have appendicitis. The doctor then said, we can wait it out and let it run it's course or if we wanted a CT scan. Again, we were asked if we wanted a CT scan, they did not think he needed one. We got there at 830am and it was now Noon. After the CT scan and blood work, it was evident he had an infection going on but again they couldn't give us a real answer about the CT scan results. However because they couldn't rule out appendicitis, they wanted to transport us to a Children's Hospital. We finally left the hospital at 2pm. When we arrived at the Children's Hospital, they took one look at my son's images and scans and saw in the notes from this Hospital that he had fluid around where the appendix would be. We were told that is usually a clear indication of appendicits. This hospital never said anything about seeing any fluid. The Childrens hospital immediately took him to the OR. He had a severely ruptured appendix and infection was spread out every where inside his pelvis. The Children's hopsital told us his appendix probably ruptured the night before when he spiked a very high fever. So this was over 24 hours since the rupture. I just couldn't believe that it took me demanding the CT scan for them to be like oh yea something may be wrong. I am thankful they did provide care for him while there, but I felt completely dismissed as a Mother that knows her child and when something is seriously wrong. It is also concerning that with an xray and ct scan, there wasn't a more definite answer or more concern and we were not accurately informed on other findings in the xray. If we would have listened to the doctor ( I'm sorry Nurse Practioner) and "let it run it's course" our son would not be here. You have to be your own advocate at this place! Please do better at listening to your patients and their families. Please be upfront with findings and do not be dismissive of symptoms they are telling you. You are trusted as a hospital. Unfortunately our trust for you was lost that day. As a parent and not a doctor even I understand everybody is different, and one childs experience with appenditis will be different than another child's.

I do not even think one star would apply. I was not taken seriously when I went to this ER for the INABILITY TO WALK and severe back pain. I feel I was basically treated like a drug seeker and dismissed. I went back for a second time and was treated the same until an x-ray was done and it became obvious there was a problem. I was given a CD and told I needed to see an orthopedic doctor. The nurse who was assigned to me was rude and showed no compassion at all to the fact I could not walk. I thought the Hippocratic oath included do no harm. However, the lack of decent medical care may have caused me permanent damage. Next time, at least pretend the patient is someone you care about. Do better.

They need to shut down completely and not open back. Very nearly killed my husband. Saving grace he got transferred to UVA after the surgeon couldn't get out the organ. Which if he had he would have surely died. The ER tried to send him home...with massive pain, failing liver, bottom lungs collapsed. When I brought up these things the people trying to discharge him shrugged and said I don't know but you should stay out the chart!! What?! It took HOURS to be admitted and given a room, when there was hardly any other patients. He should have been in the ICU. They didn't tell the hospital he was sent to everything and they for sure LIED to us.

Went to the ER and was brought right back due to my condition. They immediately seen me and started treatment. Ran every test possible and then later admitted me. All the nursing staff were kind and pleasant as well as the doctors that seen me.

Sentara hospital is the absolute worst hospital I've seen yet. My daughter has to take her boyfriend to Duke to be seen and taken care of properly. This place makes me worry about ever needing medical assistance. If the need ever arises, I hope I can make it to Duke for proper care.

If I could give less I most definitely would. Your staff is so disrespectful and unprofessional yall might as well close down all together bc the whole facility is absolutely useless. It takes nothing to answer a few simple questions and be kinda rather then short snippy and hang up on someone. Bs service

I had friendly and attentive nurses, even though my situation was difficult they kept me occupied and always had a friendly smile on their face anytime I was approached by them or vice versa. The facility itself is nice and clean and efficiently staffed. They had patients rolling in and out all night in a timely manner but still making sure to give them that good quality care and bedside manner everyone deserves. If anyone ever needs any medical attention in an emergency situation or more I recommend them!

Took my mother to the ER. We got there around 7:25 pm, she is there because she was having chest pain. Hours later they tell us that she will have to be transferred to a hospital that is Lynchburg, Va because they on do things deal with your heart on “certain days”. From a person that grew up around the area, this is really disturbing that a “hospital” don’t have the people for the job.
