I am a comp customer through Cactus Pete's usually...I have a Lil dog that I like to take everywhere with me tho...so I agreed to try Horeshu across the hhwy...seriously I am not disappointed. Sure the rooms aren't as fancy nor as new but the beds were clean and the rooms were quiet...plus if I needed to roam in the casino across the street it was ok to leave my baby in the room to sleep. He doesn't like all the casino stimulation sometimes so knowing I was ok to leave him in the room and not have to worry about barking etc...was a good relief for us! Would do again!

Our stay at the Horseshu Hotel had several challenges. Upon arrival, the hotel sign was not illuminated, making it difficult to locate, though Google Maps was helpful in finding the destination. Check-in is handled across the street at Cactus Pete's, which, while not a major issue, was somewhat inconvenient.

Accessibility at the Horseshu (specifically the Buffalo building) is a significant concern. None of the entrances offer ground-level access, making it difficult to use a valet cart. Stairs are present throughout the property, except for one location that still requires navigating stairs to reach the parking lot.

Upon entering the building, there was a strong odor of marijuana, which detracted from the overall experience. Wayfinding was also an issue—our room was not clearly marked on the signage, leading to some initial confusion and requiring a lengthy walk to locate it.

On a positive note, the beds were clean, and while the bathroom was fairly standard, it was functional. The highlight of our stay was the check-in attendant, who was exceptionally pleasant and professional, making an otherwise frustrating experience more manageable.

Overall, while the hotel has potential, improvements in signage, accessibility, and cleanliness would greatly enhance the guest experience.

This whole thing kicked off with the most aggressive and angry women checking us in at CP. My brother, the winner of the Most Easiest Dude Award for 48 years in a row, was flabbergasted by her over-the-top and completely unnecessary rudeness. That should have been the first clue that things in Jackpot are at an all-time low. But then we headed across the street to the HS...

The rooms haven't seen an update since they opened- we knew this because we're from Boise and have being coming here for decades. But the tub and sink were both clogged in 1 room the other room drained very slowly. The rooms had damage everywhere you looked, and they were pretty dirty- hair everywhere, stained mattress, gross bathroom. The pool was pleasant but surprise! Dirty.

The most ridiculous part is that they deactivate your key at 11am sharp without telling you this, so if you close the door while you're loading up your car you'll lose access and will have to go all the way over to see that lovely gal at the front desk at CP to get them to reactivate your room. This would be a huge problem if you left a sleeping baby/small child alone in the room while loading.

As a huge fan of Jackpot for the past 3 decades, I'd say the HS is at its near end. And from our experience, they deserve it.

Not a bad room, but, fans don't work and the smell of weed was so overwhelming in our non-smoking room, that we had headaches and awful reactions..even though I like weed, it was beyond overwhelming. Beyond awful!!!! Back patio was not cleaned. Pool wasn't open, even though we were told it was. But honestly the worst part was not being able to breath because our room was so heavily polluted with weed the entire weekend. Also, no mini fridge or microwave....

I booked a room through Cactus Pete’s, when I arrived I found out that the room was across the street at the Horsehu. Not thrilled as we had never stayed there and not sure what to expect. Turns out I was right! We got to the Horsehu had to park in the back of the hotel. Was pretty sketchy, walked down the stairs to come into the hotel to find there was zero gaming in the hotel, no restaurants, no vending machines nothing. Walked into the room and it was not very clean. Spider webs around the door, hair balls in the floor in the bathroom. Quickly learned there was not even a mini fridge, no place to get water or anything. Had to walk across the main hwy to get to Cactus Pete’s to gamble and get food. Didn’t want to drive as we knew we would have a few drinks not even across the street so we walked. Make sure if your booking through Cactus Pete’s your making sure your staying there and not the Horseshu, or that you bring water or anything you may want as there is nothing here and no one around. Will think twice before coming back to Cactus Pete’s even if they offer the room as complementary.

See review under Cactus Pete's. Rooms are large, and once were great, now a bit neglected. Good wifi, outside patio/deck with chairs (well weathered!), could use a good deep cleaning around edges of carpet, etc. Carpet a bit wavy in places, but overall a clean room. Very quiet as most people stay across hwy at Cactus Pete's. It's a good value and fine place to stay if you don't mind walking 5-10 minutes to get to CPete's or Barton's Club 93 for food, casino, etc. NIce pool at Horshu, not crowded. Hot tub out of order. I'd stay again.

The woman who answered when I called was confusing and kept raising the prices. Too frustrating and it's associated with Cactus Pete's so I didn't bother to try there. Not worth the hassle.

Disappointing Long-Term Experience

We have been staying at Cactus Pete's Casino and Hotel for the past five years, visiting the town every summer for work. As long-term guests who travel with dogs, we have found that the options for pet-friendly accommodations are extremely limited. Only a small section of one of the hotels allows dogs, which, while acceptable, highlights a broader issue of neglect and lack of care for the property.

Neglected Facilities

One of the most glaring issues is the hot tub in the Horseshoe section of the hotel. For two years—through both summers and winters—the hot tub has been broken and remains unrepaired. This is not just an inconvenience but a clear indication of the owner's disregard for maintaining basic amenities. The Buffalo and Antelope sections of the hotel suffer from the same neglect, with no improvements or repairs being made to enhance guest experience.

Minimal Improvements

While there was an attempt to update the flooring in the pet-friendly rooms a few years ago, this has been the extent of any improvements. There have been no further updates or maintenance efforts visible in the building. It seems that the management is uninterested in investing in the property to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay for guests.

Conclusion

Cactus Pete's Casino and Hotel has potential but is severely let down by its lack of upkeep and investment in guest facilities. For long-term visitors, especially those with pets, the ongoing neglect is frustrating and disappointing. It is clear that the current owner does not prioritize the maintenance and enhancement of the property, which significantly diminishes the overall experience. We hope that the management will take these concerns seriously and make necessary improvements to restore the hotel's reputation and provide a better experience for all guests.
