I just completed the hike from Kelvingrove Park to Milngavie, and it was fantastic! The scenic views along the River Kelvin and the mix of urban and natural landscapes made it a memorable experience. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy a beautiful day outdoors!

The West Highland way is a great choice for seasoned trekkers as well as for those who are new to long distance hiking. It is usually hiked in 5-8 days. The trail has several rougher sections and some steeper ups and downs but the grade is generally quite mild. Accommodation is available along the way, though it’s recommended to arrange hotels several months in advance as they tend to get fully booked, even during shoulder season. There are many places to wild camp for those who enjoy spending the night in their tent. Scenery is absolutely beautiful. Personally I liked the section past Kinghouse the best but every day brought some pretty nice views and experiences.

start on the weekend and get stuff at the farmers market there in Milngavie; a GIANT Marks and Spencer right around the corner; an awesome upstairs tea spot that made delicious carry away coffee and a water filling station adjacent to the start!

Second time walking the WHW. Completed it last year and started it this year. The town of Milngavie did a great job at the start of the walk. There are easily marked signs and a really nice metal progression chart. Great job Milngavie

I love the west highland way, it’s a simple yet enjoyable trek with plenty of good spots.
It can be enjoyed by amateurs and experienced hikers alike, and can be taken at slow or fast speeds as appropriate to the hiker.
It’s really good I’d recommend highly.

HOGSWEED!!! I’m not sure why I did not see it mentioned, maybe the direction I went but it stopped my entire hike dead in its tracks.. had to go to the dr, bless Scotland for free healthcare, prescriptions, free too. And then pain like I’ve never felt before, burning, pins and needles, swollen etc. Wear gloves and cover your skin! I was disappointed it ruined my hike and I had to stop but for what i did see.. so beautiful, I’m so heartbroken 💔 I couldn’t finish!! Get compeed (duoderm) and cover those feet!!
The woman in the oak tree village shop called it, said it was likely the hogsweed, called the dr in Drymen and was so helpful.

I recently completed the trail, starting from Milngavie and ending in Fort William, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience.
The path we took, starting from Milngavie and ending in Fort William, was a seven-days experience, well-planned and provided us with a great mix of challenging hikes, stunning scenery, and comfortable accommodations.
Overall, I would highly recommend the West Highland Way to anyone looking for a challenging but rewarding hiking adventure in the Scottish Highlands. It was truly an unforgettable experience that I will cherish for years to come.
