Our family rented one of their boats on August 3, 2024. It was an amazing experience! Brian was great about communicating before the trip, during the walk-through and upon returning the rental. We got more fish than we even expected. The freedom to do as you please on the water was one of our favorite parts! Their storefront also has anything you would need to catch any species of fish. I recommend doing your homework ahead of time and know what your goals on the water are. Thanks again Valdez Outfitters, can’t wait till next time.

We had the most amazing (if not long) day Halibut Fishing through Valdez Outfitters. Our captain, Lloyd, was absolutely fantastic. He made sure that all of us caught our limit of Halibut, Rockfish and Lingcod. It was also fun meeting new people - my husband and I shared the boat with another couple and a father and son-in-law. So, even when we weren't fishing (lots of travel time to get to the best spots) we were entertained by getting to know one another. Highly recommended - ask for Lloyd if you can.

We recently rented a boat from Valdez Outfitters for two days during our trip, and it was the highlight of our vacation! The boats are in excellent condition, and Brian gives a very thorough walk-through before you head out, ensuring you feel confident and comfortable. We had such a great time that we’re already planning to rent a boat for the entire week on our next visit.

In addition to the rental boats, their shop is fully stocked with everything you might need for fishing. Whether you’re looking to rent a boat, book a charter, or just stock up on fishing gear I would recommend checking out Valdez Outfitters. Overall, it was a great and memorable experience for my family.

Great experience seeing Valdez by boat! Highly recommend Valdez outfitters. They allow you to rent boats which you can drive yourself. Boats are well maintained and feature sonar, depth finder, radio, safety gear, enclosed cabin area and can comfortably accommodate 6-7 passengers. We were given safety, operating instructions and recommended fishing locations and caught Salmon, Halibut, Cod and Rock Fish. Valdez outfitters offer rods, tackle and bait at reasonable prices. Their staff was very knowledgeable and friendly!

On July 3rd & 4th 2024 my buddies and I rented one of Valdez Outfitters boats. If fact, the same boat I rented last year. There was a big issues with the hydraulic steering. As we drove, it would continuously steer itself to the right. I spent the entire time having to counter steer to the left to keep it driving straight. When my buddy (who booked the boat this year) called Brian, he was told there was air in the system and it would work itself out. After day one, it did not burp the air out. Then we were told that there was a baffle that was shot. That makes more sense than air in the system. When we got to our desired fishing area, we dropped the anchor to find that there is not 300’ of anchor line like we were told. There was 200’ish at best and a spliced in knot in the middle so we could not use the buoy to pull the anchor. Which was there last year but I fished shallow enough to not know the total length and we tied up just after the knot. We could not stay anchored in anymore than 140’. The motor trim would also bleed off and not stay where set. Brain said the high torq of the motor would push the motor trim down. I grew up on the ocean and running boats/vessels of all sizes and never had a 150hp outboard’s torque push the trim down. I am not new to operating watercraft.
After day two, we talked with Brian about the issues we had after we cleaned the boat. Brian was hostile to us and asked us if he needed to “F’n cancel the next days reservation”.
There was zero attempts or offerings to right the issues or discount the rental.
In the photos you can see the end of the rope and the depth we first attempted to anchor. At 237’ we should have had enough to hit bottom and have slack to get an angle for the anchor to grab. In the picture you can see the depth finder was picking up the anchor/rope going straight up&down.
Needless to say, we will not be renting from Valdez Outfitters and/or recommending them to others.

It's not called catching for a reason. I typically book the whole boat for two days in an effort to give 5 guys what could very well be the fishing trip of a lifetime. This year's trip was nothing short of that.
Captain Louie manned the helm with a confidence that gave us complete peace that we were going to have the best two days of "Fishing" that we could get.

Day 1 the weather was great, thank you Jesus! We caught our limit of halibut in the chicken hole after trying our luck offshore. We caught our limit of black rockfish in a matter of minutes which was the highlight of the day for me anyway. We were blessed with seeing lots of Orca Wales as well as a few Humpback Wales. Day one TOTAL SUCCESS.

Day 2 the weather was even better than day 1, thanks again Jesus! We were off again. On the way out to the fishing grounds we saw a huge pot of orca whales and a few humpbacks. Starting out to be a great day! Reach the fishing grounds offshore and then minutes. We had a bit over 100 lb in the boat. Followed up by three other halibut over 60 lbs. This was a day for catching most likely to be the biggest fish. Some of my great friends will ever catch. Thanks to Captain Louie and Captain Gus we ended up having an epic trip. If you want to go catching, go to the fish market, I want to go fishing on a great boat with some great captains give Valdez Outfitters a try. This is the fourth time I've used these guys. I have never been disappointed.

Our charter was nothing short of Fantastic with Captain Lloyd aboard the Chugach Girl!! We limited out on Rockfish, Ling and Halibut, with one of those Halibuts being over 100 pounds! We are looking forward to booking with Captain Lloyd next year. The rentals are equally awesome! Brian goes the extra mile to ensure your rental experience goes smoothly, and always offers places to drop your shrimp pots and the latest fishing updates!
