The Sailmakers house has got to be one of the nicest, most comfortable, cleanest and cozy Inns that we've ever stayed at! The staff was so nice they were very informative about the history of the house, what to do in the area and answer any questions we had.
The inn was perfectly located, within walking distance to most everything there is to see and do in downtown Portsmouth.
Our two room king suite was just perfect in every way. Over sized shower, separate living room. The king bed was very comfortable and the linens super soft. And to top it off we had a large deck abutting Strawberry banke! We will definitely stay again.

Third time staying at this charming New England Inn. The rooms are well appointed, nicely decorated, and clean. The common area is beautiful, inviting, and they provide coffee and tea around the clock, as well as snacks. There is free parking on site, for one vehicle. However, be mindful that if you arrive very late, and the Inn is full, you may need to park down the road. But the town provides free parking a very short distance away, for up to 72 hours… No issues finding a spot there… what I love most about this in, is the location. While many of the bigger name hotels are on the opposite side of the city, the side of the city in which the sale makers is located is much more quaint and has proximity to historic sites. Even better, if you are a runner or enjoy long walks, you are closer to walk to Castle Island, which is a really cool place to visit. Even better, the price is at this end are very competitive… Particularly in comparison to some of the other hotels. Highly recommend if you have the opportunity to stay here to do so.

We had room 8. It was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. It was located so near Strawberry Bank, that it was just a very short and beautiful walk. We enjoyed the game and library area, along with snacks and beverages. It was very quiet. I loved the history of the house, and it's location. I will definitely stay here again. There attention to our comfort and needs was extremely prompt, and refreshing.

Loved our stay at Sailmaker’s! We got in very late, but they make checking in uber easy. Our room was incredibly comfortable and well equipped with all the niceties you’d expect of a hotel. Further, they offer a lovely selection of tea, coffee, juice, and snacks. Can’t beat the walkable location that isn’t in the middle of it all (read: quiet, but close). Bonus points for parking on site! Would go back in a heartbeat!

Amazing place! I had a lovely, zen stay. Great bed, room, and feel to the Inn. It was lovely and super quiet. I also appreciated the filtered water (that I could use to fill up my own water bottle) and tea and snacks offered at all times. I will be back!

Our trip to Portsmouth was made so much more enjoyable because of the hospitality given to us by Merle! We arrived early with friends who were also staying at the Sailmaker’s House. Merle welcomed us in, and although she was not sure our rooms were ready, she made us feel at home. She helped us to find a restaurant for dinner that night, and even made the reservation for us! Our room was lovely and inviting. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean. We would recommend the Sailmaker’s House wholeheartedly, and hope to visit it again!

Exceptional small inn in a quaint historic building just on the edge of the CBD and in a peaceful residential area. Very tastefully decorated. Our room (#10 upstairs) was spacious and quiet (rooms near the communal area may be a bit noisier with guests coming and going. Nice sitting room for guests. Amazing customer service. Recommended.
