Perfect location, everything we wanted to do in Portsmouth was within walking distance. Room was large, comfortable and had everything needed for our stay. The hotel is impeccably decorated, which is a nice change from your usual sterile hotel setting. Easy check in, easy check out. Very happy with stay. Highly recommended for anyone thinking of staying in the area. Cava restaurant and Jimmy's Jazz club were highlights of our trip.

We stayed in room 6, which was up a flight and half upstairs. It was super adorable!!! The decor, black-out curtains, sound machine, USB ports, amenities- great! Dishes, hot plate, coffee maker- kitchen well appointed for a small space. However, a couple of things would have made the facility better- while we were happy to have a washer/dryer outside the room, it STUNK! The door on the front loading washer was closed and clearly had never been cleaned. The dryer didn't work until we cleaned the lint trap- and it was apparent it had either never been cleaned or not in a very, very long time. The room was relatively clean, but it is obvious that the staff do a "typical" surface clean- vacuum, change bed, etc. Some of the small appliances could have been cleaner. The room has a small, non-usable fireplace which would be so much cuter with some battery operated candles. It was nice to have secure, private, free parking. It is centrally located downtown- easy to walk to many restaurants and attractions. Would recommend and stay again.

We had a wonderful getaway weekend at The Inn Downtown! The property is so nicely done and set among several other beautifully-preserved historical buildings in Portsmouth. It makes one feel like they are looking back in time when walking the grounds or looking out the windows! The unit where we stayed was terrific - clean, nicely furnished, comfortable temperature, fully-applianced in the kitchen (it even had a washer/dryer in the spacious bath!) and dark blinds for sleeping a little later than usual! The location is ideal for walking around Portsmouth and stopping back to the room whenever necessary. Management of the property was superb - very communicative via email after making reservations and while on the property. We had a small need, and Doug was very quick to respond and take care of us. All-in-all, a wonderful weekend, and The Inn was a big part in us feeling that way. Would highly recommend!! Thank you so much!! :^)

Loved our stay at The Inn! It's a great location and very quiet inside. The rooms are so spacious and almost feels like home when staying out of town. The rooms even at electric skillets if you were there for longer and wanted to cook! Will definitely stay here again if we ever visit Portsmouth. Everything was clean and the beds were super comfortable. Also appreciated the nearly blackout curtains/shades so we could sleep in on our kid-free weekend :). Rooms also have a steamer so you don't have to iron any clothes. 10/10 would recommend. The owners/managers are very helpful on their restaurant insights as well. Thank you!

I can't rave enough about the property, accommodations and location of The Inn Downtown. Portsmouth is the underrated gem of New England and this place is the perfect place to stay while you're enjoying the city. Room #5 was basically a studio suite with tons of room to spread out and relax. The property is basically a 1600's historic village that I can't fully describe other than to say that it's one of a kind. Don't stay on a chain hotel in Portsmouth. This place is a few bucks more and worth every penny. If you like to travel and want to enjoy the vibe of the city you're visiting than this is the place for you.

The property is super well located and our room was pretty nice, though some of the finishings (bathroom tile, kitchen appliances) left a little to be desired. Our real issue though was with what we feel is false or at least misleading advertisement in the use of the word "hotel" or even "inn" as the property is listed as such on tripadvisor and elsewhere, and described by them as an "apart-hotel". The reality is that it is much much closer to apartment than hotel, as hotels have on-site staff and often amenities- this has neither and for $500 a night we certainly didn't expect to be carrying our own heavy bags up three flights of stairs. I think they should abandon the use of "hotel" and "inn" in their marketing. The innovation they tout in their "apart-hotel" model seems to apply more to profit margin than guest experience. And even if it was a proper hotel, the value for money was not great.

We absolutely LOVED our stay at The Inn Downtown. The rooms are amazingly stylish (I'll have to ask them about the wallpaper...loved it), and very clean and large! They're more akin to studio apartments than they are hotel rooms, with well-equipped kitchens and spacious baths. |Parking is easy and adjacent...you can come and go as you please without the hassle/expense of a valet. The location can't be beat. Top-notch restaurants of all price points/cuisines are within an easy 5-minute walk. Bring home leftovers and pop them into the spacious Smeg fridge. Mini-bar options are plentiful and well-priced. We look forward to staying at The Inn Downtown the next time we are in/near Portsmouth.

Really great set up and very comfortable. Walkable to everything you want to do in Portsmouth. Room was very spacious, including full kitchen and washer dryer. Was also very clean - well worth it and would definitely go back. Interesting set up in that there was no reception, but check in and check out was super easy, and having parking was great too
