This is the 2nd visit to the Moon River Cabins we have done. Both times we stayed in the Paddlewheel cabin with the river view. |We first visited before the new owners took over and had a wonderful experience. It was exciting to see all the new updates that have taken place on our second trip. They were also generous in offering a military discount. |Appliances, furniture and fixtures were all updated and small board games were added to the cabin. There is a small fire ring and grill off the little patio on the river side that is very convenient. They also added streaming options to the TVs which was thoughtful as well as convenient. The owners are also adding a hot tub to this cabin which may be a cool experience for some folk. |It is in a great location being within walking distance to the main street and hubbub of food, gas station, Brewery, coffee and a little shopping. The park is also nearby for a lovely stroll or hike. |Overall, we had a great experience and do recommend staying here as we will also be back in the future to stay.

We recently stayed at Moon River Cabins and had a great experience! The new owners have clearly made some new updates. Everything was so well done and they paid attention to a lot of little details. We stayed in the PaddleWheel and loved the location right on the river. ||When we were there it looked like they were in the process of installing an outdoor hot tub too.

Were looking for a cabin on the river that we could take our dogs for a nice relaxing vacation. This was most definitely not that. ||||My husband and I often travel on 4 to 5-day traps and we like to stay either in cabins or a Comfort Inn. These cabins seemed perfect based on the advertisement, but the advertisement is as false as the people who run this place. Don't go. You will be disappointed. ||||First, let me say I was disappointed the minute we arrived. The pictures make it look like it's cabin in a rural area. It's not. It's in the main road through town. It's basically a gravel parking lot with some metal buildings on them. On a main Street across the street from a gas station. ||||If you like motorcycles at 2:00 a.m. and trains at 3:00 a.m. then you might get a decent night's sleep. I didn't sleep one night we were there. They need a sound barrier wall at a minimum.||||So I'm going to rate things as I always do. First on cleanliness. One star out of five. The room was clearly not cleaned before we arrived. Maybe the bed was made but that was about it. They made the bed. They didn't clean all the mayflies off of it. There was hair in the shower and in the drain in the shower. Usually these cabins have things that people are going to need that they probably wouldn't think to bring. Like usually they leave enough garbage bags for your stay. We didn't even have one in the garbage can. They left a quarter of a roll of paper towels and no extras. So we had to buy those. When I walked in there was a small can of Folgers coffee on the shelf and I thought oh thank God I don't have to dig to find my coffee. No. turns out it was just an empty that they hadn't cleaned up from the prior guest. The very next day I had to go and take the sheets off the bed and take them to the laundromat because they smell so bad of bug spray. The room is incredibly Dusty. It's decorated in 1970s bad yard sale. But they sure waste a lot of people's time telling them how they'll be charged, If anything is missing or damaged. How would you know? Everything is chipped and gross. There was coffee splatters from the prior guest on the wall above the sink. The Comfort inn would have cost half the price and would have been clean. ||||Did I get what was advertised? Zero Stars.||Not any part of it. As I said it's not rural. We were in the paddle wheel cabin which is the only cabin that has a view of the river. Even that is obstructed. So if you want to pay $200 a night to stare at the back of a building, I guess it might be worth it to you if you like to live in filth. The TV is on a sidewall in such a way that it's impossible to look at it. So yes, there is a TV but you can't watch it. I want to also mention that I called them on the second night because the roof was leaking right into the only heat source for the room. It's an electric portable heater that looks like a fireplace but it's not and the roof was leaking right into it so obviously I couldn't turn it on. When I called they said "Thanks for letting me know." No offer to put us in another cabin. No offer to come and fix it. Nothing. Oh well, you paid for it but we're not giving it to you and we're not going to reduce the cost or anything. You would have thought they might have, at least offered us a dinner in town somewhere. But nothing. Just a junkie cabin with no heat. Great. ||||It talks about stocked kitchen. But there was one frying pan and two pot lids. But no pots. There's a lot of junky old dishes that take up all the space so there's no room to work even if you did want to cook. This was very disappointing for us because we had brought all our food to cook for 4 days. We did not plan on eating out much because of the dogs obviously. But we couldn't cook anything in that kitchen. It was just too small and not equipped to do anything. I've stayed in these kind of cabins many many times. They usually have a small cookware set, probably from Walmart. It probably cost them 20 bucks but it worked. This place bought odds and ends at yard sales for $0.25 and put some junk in there and call it a stocked kitchen. If you want to cook, you have to bring your own stuff. You cannot cook in these kitchens. Forget about it. ||||Then they're supposed to supply a charcoal barbecue for each cabin and a gas barbecue in between the cabins for sharing. ||||The grills were disgusting. In fact, my cabin when you walked out the back door, the last visitor had dumped their coals right in front of the porch, which is about 4 ft out the door. Remember I said my dogs were there? Just a big charcoal mess. I guess we're supposed to clean it up? Neither of the grills were cleaned anyway. In fact we couldn't even barbecue unless we went out and bought a barbecue for ourselves. This was too disgusting. ||||Now let me just say I've stayed in cabins like these cabins before. Maybe I got lucky? But the cabins were always clean for me before I got there. I didn't expect them to supply all of my wood for burning a fire at night. But I've never gone anywhere that didn't at least clean it from the prior guest and give you a starter log for the first night? In fact, one place put a ribbon around it with a note. That was worth 200 bucks a night. This isn't.||||The towels looked like they were 10 years old. These would have long been in my rag bag at home. There's no way to exchange your dirty towels. You have to take them to the laundromat and wash them. They do give you quite a few so I guess you could make a pile and stack those stinky things up in your room. But it's a very small cabin.||||The bathroom we won't even talk about. I had to clean the whole thing before we could even use it and even then it's about big enough to turn around in. ||||Safety of the property can I give negative stars?||Now one of the biggest issues and I should have put this at the top. You have major safety concerns here. We went as a foursome. Me, my husband and our two dogs. One of our dogs is a 23 years old Yorkie and she's blind and deaf. As soon as we got there I realized that we were on a sort of ridge and there was about a 30-ft drop less than 10 ft in front of our fake cabin. Now I know my dogs are old and not always the most well-behaved so I went to the extent of buying dog stakes and leashes. My husband and I staked the dogs down so they could go close to the ridge but not over it and the other dog is so old we bought her a little play pen to stay in so that it wouldn't be dangerous for them. Little did we know. The last day as we were packing up somehow my 23-Year-Old dog got her leash out of the stake. We don't know how she did it but she did. We didn't realize this of course until I walked out of the cabin and realized she wasn't on the stake anymore. I of course hoped she decided to go around the cabin but my husband, who is 63 years old, knew I would die right there if something happened to her. So without thinking he went over the ledge and down the ridge. I was just waiting to hear a splash and they were both in the water. I would never have seen either of them again. We found her. She was down there. Just crying. Hoping somebody would find her. There is no barrier whatsoever to stop you from going over that ledge. I almost fell myself a couple of times. If you have any children under 10 years old, do not, I repeat. Do not stay here! Unless of course you don't want half of your family coming home with you. I'm going to add a picture of my husband holding the dog after he got her up and a picture of what it looks like in front of the cabin so you can see what I'm talking about.||||The only reason they're getting one star is that the town itself is cute and has some very beautiful views from the ridge. But there's nothing to actually do in the town itself except for the Riverwalk. Which I did several times and was nice. ||||The restaurants in town are probably around 2 and 1/2 stars in general. Nothing really over the top good. But it wasn't disgusting and you wanted to throw it out either. It was kind of like a good effort that they didn't get quite right. ||||There is no shopping district. Kind of shows like there is one but most of the stores are empty or things you wouldn't go into on a vacation. CPAs, Realtors, etc. ||||When you first get there, you're going to think it's a pretty cute town. But then you realize it's all kind of fake. Fake like the cabins we stayed in. Which weren't cabins at all. The same people also own a big Victorian mansion that we had thought about staying at when we didn't have the dogs with us. We went and took a look at it. It is an old Victorian mansion on the side of a hill. However, the rooms you stay in are actually metal buildings that were just built adjacent to the actual Victorian house. So you're not actually staying in the house. You're staying in a cheap apartment building that's built onto it with siding that's made to look like it's part of the Victorian house, but it's not. So basically it's the same metal buildings with, hopefully, some better decorations. ||||Would I stay at the cabins again? Hell to the no. ||||Would I recommend it? No. I'm embarrassed to even tell people I stayed there. It really is that bad. If you want to stay at a hooptie shack on the side of the road. Here's your place!

We stayed at the River Stone cabin for a week. I loved the 2 bedrooms and the great view of the Mississippi River.
This was the most relaxing vacation I have had, and that is what we came for.
Watching the ships go along the river in the sleepy little town of Bellevue was a pure joy.
The cabin was small but had everything we needed including a full kitchen.
We will be back next year.

We had a lovely weekend! When we arrived the 'wood burning' stove was lit and music was on. Very inviting.

We totally enjoyed the views and the ambiance. The Potters Inn was a little walk away and had great food.

We would definitely stay again!

We stayed here three nights with our dog. We occupied one cabin and our family occupied another with their large dog. The cabin we had was a bit close to the road and if you are sensitive to that you may want to pick one closer to the water. The cabins were very clean. The décor was what you would expect for a cabin but the renovations were a bit eclectic. We enjoyed it we walked to the riverwalk many times, to a brewery, state park and restaurants. Very peaceful and serene location. Some of the cabins were occupied but overall it was pretty quiet.

Stayed 2 nights with large dog in stone mill cabin. Staff pleasant cabin was well supplied rand comfortable rght next to river with great views and access. There is a camper area behind cabins that is on a lower level and very small about 5 families there during our stay which was not problematic. Cabins are on a main road but not too noisy. Our cabin could have benefited from minor cosmetic repairs ,but was clean and had great bed linen .cabin decor was great and slept 6 very spacious for families and they are pet friendly. Bellevue is very pretty and has nice mom and pop stores eaters etc. We are already talking about going back. The owners also have a beautiful bed and breakfast called mont rest goole it you wont be disappointed.

I randomly found Moon River cabins by searching for romantic weekend getaways in Iowa. The wife and I stayed for the weekend and it was great! The cabin was very clean when we arrived along with the grounds surrounding. Only "downsides" with our stay was the hot water did not last very long (understandable with minimal space for large heater), and pillows not very comfortable. Both did not impact our stay in any real way and will not keep us from returning. Most definitely will recommend to others 4.99/5
