If you're never been in a hostel, I highly recommend everyone try it once if you are a sole traveler. Because you're guaranteed to meet people. This experience was unlike any temporary stay I've ever been to. Extremely lax, accommodating, and generous are the workers. You will be treated as family for your stay (given you behave of course). Know that you're paying the price of sleeping with people, which is why it's such a bargain. Do not be fooled by the caveat, it was worth every penny, and I would 100 percent go back just to say hi to the friends I've made there!

Great spot in old town, San Luis Obispo. Walking distance to many amenities and restaurants. 3 day stay vs 1 night at a hotel. Very clean. The proprietors are helpful and friendly.

This was a lovely little hostel. It's clear many people have put a lot of passion and love into making it what it is.

The rooms are basic but very nice - especially for a hostel! I thought that, for the price and compared to the average hostel, Hostel Obispo was excellent. The downstairs toilet and shower (two seperate rooms, so less of a risk of waiting for either) were clean and functional. The front desk offered little packs of sealed ear plugs for free, which I thought was a great idea for hostel living. Matresses wer comfortable and the blankets and towels were great.

The caretaking team was very kind and kept offering us food. It looked delicious - the kitchen also had plenty of open space for cooking. There was also ample guest pantry space.

I wish I could put 0 stars.

Hello, I recently stayed at Hostel Obispo in San Luis Obispo, everyone that worked there was mainly white and I'm a person of color being Mexican, on the first day everyone was staring at me, looking extremely paranoid about me for no reason likely because I'm a man and brown because their is no other clear reason besides blatant sexism and racism, this white lady was ignoring me the whole time I was there, all staff were asking me pointless questions a lot to irritate me, the main issue was with the a guy named Christopher and the owner, I asked Christopher about something because I thought something happened in the bathroom that got me dirty and when I asked "can I talk to you?" He was being extremely rude and controlling to me speaking to me in a very dismissive and aggressive tone for no reason, later I was laying on the couch and Christopher started acting aggressive near me with being loud etc as a clear indication he's bothered by me, he then picked up his stuff from the couch aggressively and it shook my body around and when I looked at him to signal "why did you do that" he told me something rude and controlling so I confronted him and he didn't want to apologize and was being very controlling afterwards as a way to get back at me, I called the owner Jared and asked for a refund and Jared made me leave at 9 in the morning when checkout is 11 because Jared doesn't like me either for no reason. In conclusion everyone there is obviously weird and discriminates against brown men for no reason, this place shouldn't be running, they want your money and then want to psychologically abuse you afterwards for no reason

I did not feel safe and bailed.

Creepy People-That's the nail. The room was fine (even if the walls were paper thin, and we could hear people complaining to the office about things missing and locks not working, and the bed was not comfortable and extremely creaky), the bathroom and showers were clean, the kitchen was clean, great location BUT--- there were several creepy people around, acting odd, staring at you, or inappropriate conversations. I really wanted to challenge myself, like don't judge, it will be ok. There was not a dead bolt, only a flimsy handle lock. As a single female, I only spent 1 night. I chose to flee to another name-brand hotel. I did not feel safe. They were able to refund the day.

It used to be that you would do a chore at a hostel. The prices were a lot cheaper. Here, it's😞 expensive and they still hassle you about the dishes. Owner saves the day, mostly nice guests. Some of my things were missing including tea I bought back from Hawaii. One of the staff was drinking and cussing loudly all day in the back yard. Really unpleasant.

Given how EXPENSIVE the private room was, this place deserves no stars sadly! Going to a hotel would be just as expensive with your own private bathroom and a room bigger than the size of the double bed plopped in it- no walking space at all. And walls a bit more insulated. Neighbourhood was beautiful, right downtown.

We're an older couple who used to love Hostels,so we tried this! Quick one night so didn't enjoy the amenities. Room clean and comfortable. We were adjacent to the pristine bathroom! Helpful staff (Gary)
