My husband and I traveled to New Haven twice to spend Thanksgiving and then Christmas with our son and his wife, and we stayed at The Study both holidays. The lobby is designed to feel like a Danish-style living room, with a variety of comfortable furniture arranged to delineate separate, private sitting areas. Celebrating these holidays is always best at one’s home, but it was surprisingly peaceful and pleasant to be in the lobby reading. We also found the restaurant was very good (and consistent), especially the breakfast choices. The Thanksgiving meal at Heirloom was outstanding, and the one lunch and dinner we had were well prepared and presented.

I enjoyed my stay thoroughly, it was very clean and pleasant. The furnishing is new looking and adequate.
The morning coffee is good too.
I thought they had a self service laundry area but apparently they don’t. There is one that’s about 5 mins walk away from the Study.
As far as I’m concerned it was perfect for a business trip.

Love this gem of a hotel in the heart of Yale university - classy, cosy and comfortable. The room was bright and spacious, and the beds were comfy too. Nice touch for them to offer free coffee in the lobby every morning, and the Heirloom restaurant at the hotel also offered decent brunch options. It's also super walkable to all of the key Yale landmarks, being a stone's throw away from the Art Gallery and a 5-min walk from New Haven Green. Great stay all in all!

Small and pricey rooms, but clean and comfortable. Friendly reception staff. (The valet, not so. He did not open the door to those struggling with luggage at the stairs and only popped out to confirm we did not require valet parking. I was surprised he was hotel staff.) Cookies and apples at lobby. Loved the Harney & Sons tea at lobby in the mornings.

I stayed at the Study this past weekend, and both my husband and son have stayed at previous times. I love this hotel! The management took good care to spend money where it matters and the furnishings are lovely. The beds and pillows are comfortable. The staff is helpful and cheerful. Other New Haven hotels talk about being close to Yale University, but the 10 minute walk is like going to another place altogether; the Study, on the other hand, is right in the heart of it all, but also is peaceful when you're in your room. The lobby is a happy, lively place, with a fantastic atmosphere. Most boutique hotels strive for this kind of environment but don't succeed. I will be back whenever I return to New Haven.

Incredibly interesting attention to every detail in this extremely comfortable hotel. Staff is just terrific - friendly, authoritative on New Haven, helpful. Room was superb, quiet, fantastic picture window, room bathed in sunlight all day but with perfect curtains for night-time. Everything from sharp pencils, scratch pad, ginger snaps at reception, newspapers and comfortable spacious lobby for meetings and just reading have been carefully thought out. I love the place.

Fantastic stay! This is a perfect location for visiting Yale. The room was perfect for my need. I absolutely LOVE the fact that they had easy and free charging for my EV. During and after the stay, the service was tremendous. I left a pair of glasses that was recovered by housekeeping and sent right out to me with ease. Highly recommend The Study at Yale!

A friend and I stayed here over December to visit New Haven and found the service lacking. We arrived with suitcases and no one came down to help us up the steps. Nothing was explained to us at check-in - the breakdown of the extra fees and taxes (coming from Australia, we weren’t used to this), the wifi password, check out times, coffee and tea facilities etc - the girl at the desk just took our card and gave us the room key with a little bit of an attitude. The room itself was lovely - the view of the rooftops was sublime, although we had a few stains on the carpet in our room. We also saw empty beer bottles and food left out in the hallway over a few days that no one took away as if there had been some frat party the night before. Tea and coffee was made available in the morning and you can help yourself to limitless jellybeans and cookies in the lobby. Overall our stay was pleasant despite the lack of communication - however, this needs to be addressed by management especially for the prices charged and by way of comparison to the overall standard of hotel service we experienced in Boston and New York - the experience at the Study fell very flat. In addition, I emailed the hotel to enquire as to a leather jacket I left behind in the closet at check-out - they never got back to me - so expect this to be the standard of service and communication here. In summary, if you’re willing to pay NYC prices for motel standard services, I’d recommend you stay elsewhere in New Haven.
