Great park with great hiking/ training trails. Sort of an urban oasis. The only major downsides are lack of bathrooms, and the lake has a lot of trash on the shore. Oh, and the burrs. The burrs suck. But all in all, the park is very pretty and feels big even though it's a pretty small nature preserve. Come in the evening for some gorgeous hilltop sunset views as well. 4 stars.

This park has beautiful ponds and trails. There is catch & release fishing, pets are allowed on a leash, and there are picnic tables. Another great thing are the plants. There are flowers trees, a meadow, and even blackberries and grapes. You can pick them but the best time is in mid June to early July. Overall, this park is a beautiful place with lots of wildlife.

Nice walk hidden in an urban setting. How often do you get to say you climbed a mountain in the DFW area?! Kennadale Mountain, you have been climbed!

I came here to say hello to some friends but we’ve also been fishing here before. It’s quiet, not a whole lot of people to bother you. Great place to fish. The trails are easy to navigate as well. I think it would be an excellent place to go for a walk.

Wonderful park! I have been here almost every Saturday for the last 4 months. Great place to go hiking for a mile or so. I love all the different plant scents and animal sounds in the early morning. I've seen garden snakes, an armadillo, a lil ' baby skunk, frogs, dragonflies. This place just teems with life. The dirt trails are way better than dead concrete paths in other parks. Preserve looks really nice too. I take a picture of one of the ponds almost every time I go here, I can't help it lol (really should stop tho, I probably have at least a gigabyte worth of pictures and videos at this point). As it is a nature preserve, you aren't going to find a restroom or water fountain here, so come prepared! I always go alone, but people bring out their dogs here all the time too. Also if it has rained recently, I would not recommend coming out here unless it's to take the short concrete trail to a fishing dock (catch & release only). That mud was not fun!

Great trails. There are a few and they are short which is good with kids. Two little lakes with fish and turtles. Beautiful way to enjoy nature.

I loved this place. We needed to kill some time so found this preserve and explored some of ut. It was a piece of lovely, rugged nature in the middle of the city. The trails are like paths and not very well marked but the air was fresh and clean. I walked it in flats and didn't have a problem. We didn't stumble across many people on the trails.

The Southwest Nature Preserve is an excellent place to take the family for a little nature getaway. It is located on Bowman Springs Road in Arlington near I-20 and is open daily from 5am to 10pm. There are three ponds located on the 58-acre preserve, as well as loads of hiking trails to get lost in (remember to bring your Google Maps to actually find yourself lost). Within the preserve we found a snake and tons of turtles in the southern pond, a lizard near the parking lot and a small frog along the trails. All in all, the family had a blast hiking in this preserve.
