Still reflecting on how wonderful our trip to Norway was with Rowan Tree. Our Fiber Ambassadors, Heather & Sydney, took great care of us merry band of travelers! It was such a huge treat to have all of our meals, accommodations, travel and entertainment planned & executed. It felt like a real vacation! Rowan Tree also works to create relationships and experiences with local fiber experts to enhance and enrich the experience. We traveled to locations I wouldn’t have, had I planned it myself, and we felt very taken care-of.

Additionally, being able to bond and experience adventures related to knitting was so fun! It was so wonderful to be in a knitting community abroad. Heather & Sydney both have a true love and experience with fiber arts, which made it all the better! Highly recommend Rowan Tree to any looking for this type of experience and would love to travel with them again!

Our trip, "Ashville through the Maker's Lens" was the best gift I've ever given myself! The timing (fall color in the mountains of North Carolina) and the setting (an exquisite Victorian Inn with gracious hosts and help, as well as remarkable hot breakfasts) were perfect. Best of all, however, were the skilled leadership of our two knowledgeable directors, the easy companionship of the ten participants and the thoughtfullly-curated fiber tour itself.

Still very sad about the recent trip that I took to Nova Scotia Sept '23 with RTT. We found them to be a very poor travel company. When it was clear that Hurricane Lee was going to hit hard right where we would be staying, RTT would not cancel the trip nor allow participants to reschedule to another trip . They assured me that we would be safe and comfortable at an inn with generators and the trip would be minimally impacted as "they never close" in regard to one planned workshop. This turned out not to be true. The majority of the group was placed in an bnb that was without power for nearly 2 days. The tour leaders were staying in a separate inn that did have a generator. Many of the scheduled activities were canceled either due to the hurricane or being told not to come b/c we had so much Covid exposure (read on). The size of the group was larger than the number they advertise. We had 20 on our trip but their website says there will be 12-18. It increases the risk of covid exponentially to have a group this large. People starting testing + with Covid as soon as the hurricane was over. First one, then three more, then three more, etc. There were no masking policies in place. RTT suggested people who were + mask after they had tested positive, a truly useless suggestion for containment of a highly contagious disease as by the time you are symptomatic you have been contagious for at least 48 hours. We had no choice but to be in close quarters with Covid + people as we all rode on the bus together even after people were testing +. In the end more than 50% of the group was sick (one person who stayed to the end thought it was closer to 70%). Many people left the tour and were provided no assistance with making any arrangements home, we were totally on our own. I don't know what would have happened if someone was too ill to manage on their own. I think it was unethical to continue visiting restaurants, inns, etc. with a large group of covid exposed people. For $5K per person we wound up having a 6 day trip (out of 11), 2 of which were hiding out from the hurricane with no power. Near the end of the trip everyone was sent an email with a non-apology and offer of $300 refund or $500 credit which seems very insufficient for what we went through. I am sharing this to let people know how you will be treated if there are problems on your trip. Not all travel companies put profits over people like this. The motivation seemed to be to run the trip at all cost to not have to give significant refunds.
