I went on the island to visit my parent's graveside. You have to have a government ID to get on the island. We went to the visitors' center and filled out a short form. We had a quick talk with security. Our pictures were taken; IDs were made right then. It took only 5-10 mins. The process has definitely been streamlined and your ID is good for 3 years compared to only 1 year previously.

It was just a little confusing to find P & Q. Brought back memories from my brother's funeral. There was one going on there at the time. So it is a beautiful place to visit with my brother.

Small national cemetery. Very clean and well kept as would be expected from a national cemetery. Unfortunately the government does not make it easy to visit loved ones buried here unless you have a military CAC card or civilians who apply well in advance of a planned trip to the cemetery.

We were taking my mom to dad's grave. We had to fill out a form each and get our pictures taken at the visitors' center. Then they issued each of us a pass, good for one year. We had to show the passes and identification to get on the arsenal. The music was playing patriotic songs as we were visiting dad's grave. It was nice.

We helped Memorial Day weekend to place flags on Veteran's graves sites and also picked up flags following. A moving and gratifying experience. Beautiful place.

This is the visitor center where you are required to obtain a visitor pass In order to enter the installation as a tourist. Expect to take about 10 minutes to complete a background form and then meet with the guard who will run a background check. If cleared you will be issued a military ID that's valid for some period of time (mine was good for 1 year). Once on the island, I recommend the George Davenport house and the Lock and Dam visitor center. There's also a military museum; unfortunately it was closed on the day we went.
