My boyfriend and I were originally staying at the Best Western in Portsmouth (terrible experience for many reasons) and then left to go stay here. It was easy to book and we were able to get in early, which was super convenient with the snow storm. The ladies at the front desk were SO nice and accommodating. Our room was extremely clean and spacious. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds ever. The atmosphere of the hotel was great. The gym was clean and had a lot of great equipment. The pool was also clean and heated to a good temperature. Breakfast the next morning was actually so good (lots of options). The hotel is located in a great area with a lot to do. The lobby had a comfy seating area with great hot beverages all day. You definitely get what you pay for here. My boyfriend and I can’t wait to come back soon!

This is a tough one and I waffle between the rating. This Residence Inn is in a nice location, lovely lobby with a fireplace, cute amenities like warm cider and a gift wrapping station (loved that idea), and a nice indoor pool. The rooms are large and I had no issues with cleanliness and pleasant staff interactions.

However, as other reviews have noted, the walls in the hotel must be made of rice paper. My first room I could hear screaming kids on both sides of the room, across the hall, down the hall, and constant running up and down the hall. Even if I were traveling with my 4-year-old, it still would have been an issue because she’s spent so much time in European hotels she knows it’s a communal space and important to respect the comfort of others (not trying to sound braggy, American hotels are still something of a shock).

Since I’m pregnant and had a free night alone in a hotel, we asked if a room change were possible and the staff accommodated us immediately. The next room was much better, however, you could still hear the people on both sides as if they were in the room (to the point I checked to see if there was a vent or something connecting the rooms), the dog barking across the hall, the people above, every single person who even stepped foot on the floor sounded like a wild herd, and the drunk people waking everyone up at 1am. And embarrassingly, I’m sure they could hear me coughing all night. Lose lose all around.

The bulk of this issue seems to be the design quality so not much the staff can do about that. If you’re sound sensitive, being ear plugs. It’s definitely something I’d keep in mind before staying again.

I have not stayed in a Residence in for at least 30 years but this place really impressed me and I will be back!!|We needed a dog friendly hotel and this was our first time to Portsmouth. We are Bonvoy Elite members and were able to use a free night award for one night and a reasonable amount of points for the second night. We got a one bedroom on the end which had everything we needed. It was clean, spacious and perfect for our trip.|Everyone who worked here was so friendly from housekeeping to the front desk to valet..EVERYONE. The breakfast that was included in our rate was one of the best breakfasts I have ever seen that was complimentary!! We did eat out both days but managed to try a couple things..the mini spinach/cheese quiche and bacon were soooo good! And we love having coffee available all day to guests!! There are many coffee shops on every block, but being able to pop by the lobby for a fresh cup whenever I wanted was really appreciated.|I have lots of allergies and even though our room was pet friendly it was so clean and I had no issues whatsoever.|We loved the pet relief area on the side that we took our pup to several times. Everyone kept it clean because they had bags available for the pups. They have an indoor pool which looked nice although we did not use it.|Portsmouth is a really great New England quaint city that is very walkable, clean and dog friendly. The Residence Inn is right in the heart of it all. We will be back!!

Residence inn at Portsmouth is a great hotel located in walking distance to all the great restaurants and shops. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The pool was also clean and the kids loved swimming in it. Valet was pricey, being $45 a night. Other than the valet I recommend this hotel when visiting this area of New Hampshire.

A friend & I stayed here for the 1st time over Labor Day weekend for 2 nights. The weather was very nice too. We wanted something close to downtown where we had planned our activities. I've spent time in the city through the years and they have a great, walkable downtown. Since I'm a Bonvoy member, we were able to check-in early before noon. The only parking available is valet, which is approximately $40 daily. The plan was just to park once & walk everywhere else. We used the heated indoor pool a few times and the gym which was nice too. ||The room, like other Residence Inns is spacious, clean and nice to have fridge and for those who need it, stovetop and microwave. We brought food with us but didn't do any cooking. The bed was comfortable and so was the pullout sleep sofa according to my friend. We did have to contact housekeeping because there wasn't a full set of sheets to make up sofa though. They were prompt in bringing that evening. ||The hotel gave us a credit to a nearby rooftop bar so we walked to there and had drinks and an appetizer. We had dinner nearby and walked to Prescott park along the waterfront. It is still beautifully in bloom, this time of year. ||We had a delicious (included) buffet breakfast. The next morning we had reservations for Star Island, so walked to nearby ferry dock (about 10 minutes) & had a great day at Star Island. Star Island is part of shoals and highly recommended. ||We had a great dinner at Green Elephant (vegetarian) across the street Then, we walked around checking out the many street performers, local shops and general area. Portsmouth is a very walkable city, with multiple things going on every night. They have various theaters, clubs and unique shops with many restaurants and places to sit and relax too. There are multiple parking garages in the city also.

Some Resident Inns are getting quite tired - not this one. Clean, modern, comfortable. Even the breakfast was above the Res Inn average. Nice stay in a city that is not cheap to visit.

I really like staying at this hotel. The rooms are nice and the kitchen is a big plus for someone who usually brings food. The room artwork is not my style at all but the location is excellent for walking around the wonderful Portsmouth shops.

Stayed one night at the RI Downtown Portsmouth. When I checked in on line I put our arrival time at 10:00 a.m. we actually arrived at 9:30 and our one bedroom suite was ready. Sophie checked us in with another young lady (Her name escapes me.) and we were up in our room in a flash. I got a text from Sophie a few minutes later. She wanted to confirm that everything in the room was okay. This has rarely, if ever happened to me before. The suite was perfect. Full kitchen and separate living room. We had no issues or problems. We had a great view from our 5th floor window.||We used the valet service. Jordan got our car for us on a few occasions in lass than 5 minutes. ||The breakfast buffet was the usual RI fare. Coffee was excellent.||I used the fitness center. I was small but had what I needed. ||We had late checkout until 3 pm. ||Great staff. Highly recommend.
