Since Chollar mine has recently closed down, we decided to take this tour. One young man is apparently 100% handling it and I think he needs to look for work he actually enjoys. He handles selling tickets, putting groups together and the tour itself, so whatever he decides to do it what you get. Our tour has a group of 11 added just minutes before it was scheduled to start. Once we got inside, the first thing he said was “since this is such a large group, I’m going to skip the map part.” What What does the size of the group have to do with anything and why does I get less of a presentation just because he chose to have a large group? I was legitimately interested to know what I was seeing on the map in front of us and disappointed he chose to completely skip the first part of the tour. As we went forward it was obvious he knew a lot of facts, and I do appreciate a deadpan style of humor but it’s not easy to pull off effectively and he couldn’t do it. It was annoying not entertaining. I don’t recommend this tour to anyone

Cons: There were so many people crammed into our 3pm tour that the back 10 people couldn’t hear much at all and certainly couldn’t see what was being explained. CASH ONLY, $12.

Pros: Tracy, the tour guide was great. It is wheelie/wheelchair accessible as it’s flat, and we only walked 300 feet in then came back out the same way. The bartenders are nice there. Great historic photos in the bar. I’ve spent $12 for a lot less in my life.

Been doing this tour since I was a kid and I don’t think they’ve changed their prices since then! Favorite mine tour, great guides, always a fun time! Every time I visit Virginia City this tour is a must, and never disappoints whoever I bring with. Even living as a local in the area now, I can’t stop revisiting this tour. Worth every penny and always worth a visit every time you come to Virginia City 😉

Spencer was our quide he was very knowledgeable and gave us a wonderful tour!My 5year old loved it !!Definitely worth a visit when in town!!

We had the rudest and unnecessarily aggressive tour guide that kept injecting current politics into her tour narrative. When politely asked if we could leave politics out of the narrative we were told that the if we didn’t like it we could leave.

Fun for the $12 pp, lasts about 45 minutes. This is an unique mine - you do not go down at all, you walk straight into it, maybe just 200 feet in. The interesting part is listening to the guide giving you the history of mining in Virginia City. I don't think you will find this amazing, but just fun and interesting. I am not sure kids would find this very interesting. They only take cash but you can charge the tickets at the Visitor Center which is only about 100 feet away. I would recommend if you have an hour available.

Our tour guide was basically a stoner dude from the mid-west who wanted to sound authentic and knowledgeable - but wasn't. My wife and I have been following mining history for quite some time and his tour hit many false points as well as false information about other places, like Centralia PA (which . . . why? The Centralia coal fire has moved away from Centralia AND . . . the tour isn't about Pennsylvania . . . ) If you want a REAL mine tour, check out another one.
