I recently stayed at The Kent House of Chester to attend a family gathering. My 3 night stay was such a pleasant surprise. Pat & Joe couldn't have been more accommodating hosts, the Abigail Kent room where I stayed was roomy and comfortable and the bed was like sleeping in a cloud with luxurious linens and perfect pillows. Pat spoils you at breakfast with her delicious cooking and her carefully thought out menus. If you go in the fall, as I did, much of what is served comes from their garden. There's dependable WiFi and TV in the living room. I'll be back whenever I am in town from California to visit family. The Kent House of Chester is a gem! Thanks Pat & Joe!

We stayed at Kent House during a late summer sojourn to Derry Farm, Robert Frost's former home, now a historical site in nearby Derry. From the moment we spoke to Pat over the phone, we knew we had found a gem. One of us suffers from a chronic knee condition, so we need to stay in places with a first floor room/suite or an elevator. Pat went the extra mile to offer us a second floor suite not listed on their website, which is accessible by a chair lift. The suite was decorated in a homey, comfortable style, complete with numerous built-in shelves, a spacious desk, complete with Wi-Fi, as well as a cozy sitting area, well-appointed bathroom (technically 2, as there was a separate bathroom housing a large tub. We also had access to a small fridge and a microwave in the laundry area just down the hall. We slept well in this quiet space, then awoke to Pat's wonderful breakfast, made to order and accommodating our food sensitivities. We discovered we all adored the UK, and our breakfast reflected the dishes of that country. We had lovely eggs fresh from their hens, gorgeous homegrown roasted tomatoes, yummy sausage and a half roasted potato for carbs. There was also plenty of hot coffee and tea from the Keurig stations in the breakfast nook. One of us had to rush off to an appointment; though we were staying just one night, Pat graciously let the other of us work in her charming, comfy living room, complete with TV and lots of coffee. A lovely powder room down the hall helped us deal with all that coffee. We both felt so captivated by this quaint, spacious Federal style house, with its attractive blend of cozy elegance and period antiques. For those who do not bring their own amusements, there are plenty of games, including a pool table, and other entertaining options. The house has been thoughtfully laid out to include several kitchens, butler's pantry, formal parlor and an atrium with an elegant piano. I will be sure to bring some sheet music during our next visit. The grounds are so fantastic that they often host weddings. Kent House felt like the perfect meeting of Colonial and modern times, and Pat exuded charm and wit. We highly recommend this charming B&B.

I was at a wedding held there this weekend and the owner decided to talk to the bride and groom and their families about finances and tell them there was a discrepancy and they owed her $300 more ON THE DAY OF THEIR WEDDING. Honestly, it happens, but wait until afterwards if you think something needs to be discussed. When asked, the owner could not find the receipt and prove there was a discrepancy, so she YELLED AT THE GROOM ON HIS WEDDING DAY. Although she couldn’t find the receipt, she loudly listed all of the things she’d done to prepare for the wedding (like purchasing decorations) which she had NOT been asked to do and argued that, “It’s only $300 I’m asking for!” She also was extremely rude to the parents of the bride and groom and to the wedding party. When one bridesmaid asked, “Can I see the receipt?” She answered, “MAY you see the receipt?” She spoke in a loud voice and used an extremely condescending tone. There is NO EXCUSE for this type of behavior. Just completely immature handling of the entire thing on the part of the proprietor. I felt sick to my stomach and very uncomfortable at the property. There is a right way to handle these things and it was NOT done appropriately. There were times when she was kind and welcoming, but these were overshadowed by the times when she became verbally abusive and hurtful. I will say that this woman’s behavior ruined their wedding experience and that we enjoyed ourselves DESPITE her unpredictable, explosive, and frankly, concerning behavior.
