We stayed in H3 in Lincoln NH and Rick is so on top of things. We had easy to follow check in and check out instructions. It was clean. We had a view from the room of the river, a fridge and coffee. The place had steps down to the river that was just wonderful to enjoy some of the area and fall colors without crowds of people. If we were ever going back to the area we'd choose to stay here again. Backyard Burgers near there had good food too.

If someone had asked me on Friday what star rating I'd give to Hibernation Station Vacation Rentals, I'd have probably said "Black Hole" because there weren't going to be any stars in sight. However, in retrospect, I still want to be fair despite the disastrous 5th anniversary vacation rooting right back to a simple unpaid electrical bill.

We arrived at the condo on 10/3 at about 4:30 PM to find that there was no power throughout, and a notice was on the door regarding an unpaid electric bill. Still, a minor issue given how beautiful the condo was and how it was very ideal for what we needed at the time to accommodate three adults and a toddler. So, we simply just called Rick.

Rick, the middle-man between us and the "millionaire owner", did everything he could and I absolutely do not fault him for the mess that's to come. Rick was kind, responsive, understanding, apologetic, and generous with his time. He did what he could to accommodate and we appreciate that. He assured us that it would be 20 minutes, then another 10 minutes, then another hour. We waited patiently for 3 hours in the room, keeping updated with Rick as much as possible until we couldn't see anything because it was too dark and asked to be accommodated somewhere else instead.

Thankfully, Rick had a place ready. The place was at The Lodge, just up the road. It was another gorgeous room, but not exactly what we needed or prepared for. Still, we made do and the room worked out until we had to clear out before 11am. Regardless of that, we still thought we'd be headed back to the original room and the power would be on.

Well, the power still wasn't on. My wife took our daughter for a ride and texted Rick in the early morning to tell him the power wasn't on, and when I arrived a couple hours later, it still wasn't on, so I texted him. With Rick's blessing I searched high and low for a breaker, which I couldn't find. At this point, we had a car jam-packed with stuff and we all just wanted to unload and actually relax on our vacation. But we were told the power would be back on in an hour, again. So we went to a scenic railway.

The Butterfly Effect took over and as I was pulling out of the parking lot, I ran over something metal that got lodged in the back of my tire. We went to a body shop and while I waited for help, I followed up with Rick who said he didn't know what time it would be back on but "it would be today". Honestly, I don't blame Rick for having to do damage control with all of this, I just think it was all poorly handled.

It wasn't feasible for us to stick around and find out whether or not the power actually would come back on because I now had a $247 tire to buy at a Town Fair Tire 60 miles south of our location that I had to drive an hour and ten minutes on a donut just to get. Keep in mind that we wouldn't have needed this tire had HSVR just had either checked the room status, paid the bill, or had a reliable contingency plan in place.

After a 24 hour stay in "Inconvenience Hell", we were finally home at 7pm on 10/4. We didn't even get to be in New Hampshire, the place we were married, for our anniversary the next day. So, needless to say, this was an awful time. I give a star for a beautiful room and another for Rick being helpful and patient as we navigated all of that mess.

I apologize if any of this may seem too harsh, but I feel that we were patient enough. We got our refund and they did offer to buy us dinner, but we can't help but feel that this set of circumstances needlessly ruined what would have been a fun, stress-free getaway.

I wouldn't necessarily say to proceed with caution by going with HSVR, but just try to ensure that everything is in order before it's too late and things snowball into the same inconvenience Hell we dealt with.
