Paige and Rosanna were both super friendly and helpful at both pickup and drop off. They answered all my questions quickly and took me through the rental process very quickly. The brand new Camry I was in was GREAT! Very clean and a step above the base model, it had the upgrades and everything. Definitely recommend Hertz on Broad for renting a car in SLO.

I don't understand the low stars. We had a great experience here. They got us a car; and when we needed to extend because of the truck repair issue, our parts were delayed in shipping, they extended with no fuss. Then the parts came in unexpectedly so we didn't need the car as long. She was very pleasant to deal with. I would recommend this place and if we're ever here again we'll use them again. Thank you!

I rented a car in October 2023 and was charged $23.54 for a fuel charge when I had filled up in Santa Maria (29 miles away). When I called to ask about the charge I was greeted with the worst customer service. She was rude and argumentative, even hung up on me. I didn’t further fight the charge and didn’t think about it again. Now in June 2024 I was needing a rental and was told I could not rent from hertz due to a dispute I had on a rental. Never heard of such thing but moved on and rented from Budget. I was told I could call Rosanna and get the issue resolved. Called and was again met with rude and awful customer service. I never argued the charge, just stated it seemed excessive but she continued to argue and hung up on me, again!
After reading these reviews, it seems Rosanna might have this issue often.

Upon the recommendation of my significant other, we called Hertz to verify our reservation for a car with pickup set for July 9, 2021. The original reservation was made in January 2021. We called this Hertz location we were picking up from directly. The representative we spoke with told us someone had called and cancelled the reservation on July 5. When we questioned the Hertz in regard to who had cancelled the car (since neither of us had called Hertz to cancel) the representative responded "the cancellation came from central reservation." She then told us they did not have the car we reserved and would not provide any alternative vehicles, other than providing the number for Avis.

I continued to ask who cancelled the reservation and she kept attempting to gaslight us and explain to us how we had cancelled the reservation. Rather than find a solution she then hung up on us.

The fact we reserved the convertible for an affordable price months in advance, coupled with the fact Hertz had no convertible, leads me to believe Hertz merely cancelled our reservation without any notice and rented the convertible to someone else for a higher price. This forced us to rent the car for a higher price since it was last minute.

These shady business practices are beneath even the lowest snake oil salesman.

The first girl who checked me into my rental was so nice. But the girl today 12/22/22 when I dropped off was extremely rude for no reason. I called ahead, around 12PM and asked if there would be a shuttle available at 3PM, was told yes, I get there at 3PM and no shuttle. The girl at the counter told me “it’s a courtesy we don’t need to be here for you” instant jump to attitude out of the blue. I was shocked. And she continued to be caddy and rude until I left. The attitude was completely unwarranted. She shouldn’t be working around people.

After returning the car after a 2 month and 1 week rental, I was greeted by the most unpleasant clerk I can ever remember. She charged me for an additional day's rental which was incorrect because a gentleman told me over the phone that the additional week ended on Friday, February 28 at 4 PM. I returned it at about 2:30 PM on that date. The initial 2-month rental included the AAA discount. She never applied this discount for the additional week. She claimed that the car was filthy when I returned it and charged me an additional $100 to clean it. There was some crumbs and soil on the floor and the seat, but no stains or any damage to the interior of the car. This is to be expected for over a 9-week rental. Then she tried to charge me for a missing hub cap that probably just fell off in normal driving. There was no evidence on the wheel or the body of a crash. I reminded her that I paid for extra insurance for the whole rental period. She then relented.

She was extremely rude and disrespectful to me. She had a nasty attitude and seemed to enjoy treating me like trash. She should not be dealing with the public.

What I want from Hertz is to:

1. Give me the AAA discount for the final week of the rental.
2. Credit me for the erroneous extra day's rental charge.
3. Credit me for the $100 cleaning charge that was totally unwarranted.
4. Discipline or fire the clerk who was working on Friday, February 28 in the afternoon.

Like other recent reviewers I discovered to my great inconvenience that there is no communication between Hertz central and this location. If you made a reservation through Hertz, you should not expect that Hertz SLO will honor it because, as the clerk unsympathetically explained to me, “this is an independent Hertz location so we won’t necessarily have a car for you.” In our case we experienced a mechanical problem with a car rented from a location further north. We weren’t sure whether to exchange it, but Hertz customer service thought it was a serious enough problem that they told us to bring it to SLO about half an hour north of where we were staying on vacation. They assured us a car would be waiting. When we arrived, we were told there were no cars and they had no idea we were coming. No attempt was made to offer any help to remedy the problem, other than to suggest that we take the broken car back onto the road. So we wasted an hour of driving, paid for gas that we shouldn’t have had to use, and were sent back onto the road with a car whose safety is suspect. We couldn’t get anyone on the phone at Hertz central to deal with these problems either. All in all Hertz proved itself to be a very poorly run and unresponsive company, both centrally and by the franchisee.
