My room is spacious. I have no wifi. There's a sink and microwave in the room but neither of the two works. My door has big gaps of space around the knob. I feel like it's easy to get in. The manager doesn't seem to care about any conditions that this establishment is in but he is about them payments.

Called about rates and with my service animal accommodations, they said they don't take pets period, not even service animals and then hung up the phone. That is a total federal law violation and ADA complaint. Total discrimination.

Ok I love heritage motel it's been a personal safe haven in my life many times it has a beautiful courtyard. Yes a courtyard! Aaron is the owner wonderful dude and Vince (I'm assuming the manager) Great dude! The rooms are older and the beds are as well but it is an affordable safe for single women and kids. The rooms are spacious and your welcome to make it home when staying longer term. Great people great experience. Id totally stay a month again any time! Thanks gentleman!

I stayed here for a week, and at first had a pretty nice room, with a linoleum floor. The bed was clean, but I had to really sweep that room out. The bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in months. The next week I tried to get the same room, but instead was given a different room with carpet. I didn’t realize until the morning that my socks had gathered a thick, sticky layer of carpet grime. I tried to get a refund for all except one night. I had been cool with the guy and thought we had an okay rapport. First he gave me a bunch of nasty attitude and talking about how the machine didn’t do refunds. So he wound up taking even more than one night and just giving me a partial refund.||||Very disappointed. The current owner inherited the place, and it has really gone down hill from what I can tell. I stayed here specifically because I wanted to support a small business and it has been around so long. If I would have got a proper refund I would never have written this.

Stayed here during our cross-country bicycle trip on the TransAmerica since it goes through Carbondale. The owner was very generous to save a large room for three of us to share for one night. Rates were reasonable and the room was clean and comfortable with good air conditioning. The owner told us that Bob Dylan had stayed in our room once, so we were pretty excited about that! This place is a great throw-back to 50's roadside motels, and has a lot of character. If vintage and funky is your thing, this is your place. If not, it's still a very affordable, quiet, clean, and comfortable place to stay with modern amenities like A/C, microwave and mini fridge in room, TV, and comfy beds. Also, I'm a sucker for hotels that give complimentary Sunday newspapers from their local paper. A coffee maker in the room would have been nice though.

Less than one star. By far the worst motel I have ever stayed at. (I am 71)
It is so bad that many customers demand a refund. So they only take cash payments.
It was like torture staying there
Everything was broken. Even the TV.
Totally filthy!!
Tons of bugs of every kind! Hope you enjoy sleeping in bed with lots of bugs.
Rooms are bad for your health too. Lots of insecticide everywhere.
I checked out this morning. I feel so much better already.
I would call this motel the motel from HELL!
Not even compliant with most state laws.
I can not begin to describe how disgusting this place is..Illinois is a strange state..Like living in the 3rd world in some places.

I'll admit I am a hotel snob, but there is something about this quaint simple hotel. This is your mom and pop hotel. It is extremely clean and quiet. The owner is kind, and goes out of his way to be helpful. Yes, it is very 1950ish, but it has free internet, free bottle water, good linens, clean and air conditioned, and has simple charm about it. The location is great and near the antique store, grocery store, and SIUC. The refrigerator, and microwave are a nice touch.There is also a small flat screen TV with remote. My only issue was with the pillows. They were really flat, but I am sure if I asked the manager for a different pillow, he would have been accommodating, because that is the type of guy he is. He tries hard and it shows. Those of you looking for the large chain type of hotel room and large price tag that goes with it, stay in the next town. If you are looking for clean, friendly, reasonably priced, simple gem near SIUC, then this is the place for you.

People who deduct stars for infrastructure must not comprehend the concept of family-owned 1-star motels. They don't have the backing of a franchise, and they make up for that loss of financial backing in other ways. No exception here. ||||The owner was very nice and up-front. No bait-and-switch: took me to the room to inspect before charging my card. Room was old and a bit musty, but no shock there—again…1 star motel. Some "interesting" folks seemed to be staying there on a longer term basis, but they were quiet and nonthreatening. I understand that's how many independent motels make regular income, so it didn't bother me at all. ||||Comforter had some stains on it but didn't appear dirty, per se. Sheets were absolutely white—no stains, no tears, nothing but clean. Same with towels. ||||I thought, "hey, let's look at the mini-fridge and microwave," and they looked brand new, inside and outside. Not a mark of dirt. No dust anywhere either. And there was an LCD TV with cable—small, but perfectly suitable. ||||Don't come expecting a chain motel. That's not what you'll get. But you'll get a place where they obviously care about cleanliness and providing a quiet, comfortable and affordable experience.
