I stayed at this hotel for work, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing:||||Bugs in the Bathroom: A major hygiene issue.||Water Issues: Took 3–5 minutes to get hot water; I ended up taking a lukewarm shower the first night.||Beeping Noise: Persistent noise (like a smoke alarm with a dead battery) disrupted my sleep several times. It turned out to be the dryer beeping.||Fire Safety Concerns: Black tape covered what appeared to be fire safety devices—concerning and likely a violation.||Sewage Smell: A strong odor on the other side of the building was nauseating—clearly more than a minor issue.||After checkout, I had to retrieve a forgotten charger. The front desk staff assured me it wasn’t a problem, but later, management charged me for an additional night. Despite contacting Hilton and the Carbondale location, I’ve been ignored or dismissed. I also had the Fox News treatment someone else experienced on here. I wanted to watch espn, no one was watching tv, and the staff lady came in and turned it to Fox News, cranked it up, and took the remote. So that’s an unpleasant way to enjoy breakfast. Not all of us are into that propaganda stuff. 😉||||I almost never write reviews—even when I have bad experiences—so the fact I’m writing this should tell you something. It’s a shame because I’ll be traveling here often for work, but they traded one quick score (the extra night charge because I returned for my charger) for what could have been 15+ stays a year. Not a smart way to do business, and it shows they don’t prioritize customers.||||In conclusion: I won’t stay here again and recommend you look elsewhere. Between the bugs, safety concerns, noise, and shady practices, this place reflects poorly on the Hampton brand. Lesson learned.

The best Hampton staff we’ve ever encountered. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. Miss Margaret’s breakfast was phenomenal! And she’s a delight 🙂 Would definitely stay here again if I happened to be in this neck of the woods.

This had to be one of the worst stays at a Hampton Inn I have ever experienced. Extremely loud. Called front desk and complained about the extreme noise above our room. Was told someone would go up and settle, obviously it never happened. I had to actually bang on the ceiling the next morning and they finally stopped. I could actually hear the person in the adjoining room snoring and also hear their cell phone vibrating on the nightstand. This was on top of having my noise maker app going from my phone. Front desk staff was nice, but was told I would hear from the owner today 3/4 /25 as the General Manager no longer was employed there as of 3/1/25. Never got a response . 3 nights of very little sleep made for a very long 7 hour drive back home. Not to mention the memory of the human nasal fluid that was stuck to the wall in plain view next to the bed.

We are loyal Hilton customers for many years. Hamptons are a go to. Usually clean comfortable and affordable. It just isn’t the case here anymore. We had two rooms neither was clean. There were dirty linens in one and rat poison pellets. And the floor in the other was so sticky, many dead bugs and the room was just generally dishelved. The hot water didn’t work - cold showers. The toilet didn’t flush properly - which they never fixed properly. The water pressure was lacking. The whole thing was just generally not to standard. It seems that things have just gone down hill here. While the staff was always very pleasant and understanding the management just isn’t on top of maintaining the property.

This was my worst experience at a hotel ever. The room (and many others apparently) stunk of sewer gas. I was told when I returned to the desk after smelling the room that the problem had been worked on that morning and it would dissipate. (Lie #1). I was also told that the hotel was full and we could not change rooms. We believed that the smell would go away, but purchased air freshener and a candle to help us get past the odor. It only got worse throughout the night--and we obviously didn't want to have a lit candle while we slept. In the morning, we were told that the smells appeared in rooms randomly and had since the casino was built nearby. ||The desk clerk/manager said that she would get us a new room for the next night and she or one of her staff would move our luggage to a new room that day and would call us with the new room location. (Those were lies #2 and 3.) We got to the hotel that evening, and we had not received a new room nor had our luggage been moved from the stinky room--we'd offered to put it in our car for the day, but were told that they wanted us not to have to do that. The only positive thing was that the clerk on duty that night accompanied us to our by then unbelievably stinky room--the night clerk said she couldn't believe they made us stay there--and made sure our new room was fine. We would not have stayed at this hotel if we thought that the smell wouldn't dissipate. The next room was fine, but we heard the next day that other rooms were also sewer smelling and the first floor hallway near the breakfast area was so bad that people were saying it was making their eyes water just to walk by. With all the lies and smells, the same desk clerk/manager said that all she could do was apologize. This hotel should not have the Hilton name attached to it. They do not hold true to any of the standards of Hilton hotels that we are accustomed to as Diamond members.

BRENDA CORONA is the manager and posts fake reviews here. Please report her.

Edit:
After weeks of constant pressuring over email, they have provided an invoice for a single day refund (not enough).
I still don’t see the money in my account, and I still do not feel I was appropriately compensated for the abusive behavior of the manager. My review will remain unchanged.

Original review:
They’ve stolen my money and won’t refund it.
I arranged to stay Feb 6-10, but halfway through my stay I changed my stay to Feb 6-9. The hotel staff and Booking both agreed to this and I have email confirmation.
I checked out on Feb 9, but they claimed I checked out on the 10th and charged me for one extra day. Not only that, but they charged my Japanese credit card rather than the one I provided at check-in, resulting in foreign currency conversion fees with my bank in Japan.

When I called the manager to ask what was going on, she was immediately belligerent and took no responsibility. Although I was calm and polite, she wouldn’t let me get a word in. When I asked her to stop shouting at me and be respectful, she yelled at me even more and then hung up on me mid-sentence.

I have since spoken to an operations manager named Hope Allen over email. It took nearly two weeks for them to confirm their mistake, and they put so much of a burden on me to provide proof because they apparently don’t keep accurate records.

After finally confirming their mistake, Hope offered a refund of $140 (one night’s stay) and 1,000 useless Hilton rewards points. Even with this refund, I am paying more than the initial agreed price due to foreign currency conversion fees.

I accepted the refund but refused the rewards points because I would never use them. I then asked for proof of a refund. That was days ago. I still have not seen any proof that the money was refunded into my account. I have since emailed Hope a few times and she has not responded.

At this stage, I’m at a loss. I have all the proof that I checked out on Feb 9. I have emails showing that they admitted their mistake, but I’m still paying more money than I was supposed to. I’m sickened by the incompetence and the abuse I received. I will never again stay at another Hampton or Hilton property if I can help it.

Very displeased with this hotel and the staff. Went to Carbondale for a softball tournament with my softball team and called a month in advance to block off rooms for my families. Was told everything was good to go and then the day before we were to check in, called and they never blocked off rooms. Families then had to frantically try and book online or any way they could considering it was the day before leaving. The staff was extremely unhelpful. Was going round and round with the staff about the stay.

Hampton Inn in Carbondale is hands down the best place to stay! The hotel & the rooms are very clean, comfortable beds, pool for the kids, breakfast is fantastic, and the staff is A+++! Jammie Crumpton helped us with all our needs and questions! Jammie Crumpton was such a joyful person to meet at the desk this morning, and his kindness helped make our family’s day start off great! We definitely will be back!
