We recently booked a Death Valley tour for six people. Since it was our first time visiting and we were traveling with four older seniors, we decided to go with a tour to take the pressure off having to drive ourselves all day.

The experience overall was nice. The guide was friendly, we learned some history about the park, and we visited places like Echo Canyon and 20 Mule Canyon. Lunch was included in the tour, and they even took us to a convenience store beforehand to pick out what we wanted, which was a thoughtful touch.

That said, if I went back to Death Valley, I probably wouldn’t book a tour again. We were placed in a Suburban, which was a bit cramped for a group of six, especially for the two people in the very back who had to climb in and out throughout the day. Just something to be aware of, especially if you’re traveling with anyone who has mobility issues.

In hindsight, most of the stops on the tour are accessible with a regular rental car, you really only need a 4x4 if you want to go to Echo Canyon. So if that’s the main destination you’re unsure about driving into, it might make more sense to just book a shorter tour for that part and explore the rest of the park on your own.

Overall, I’d still give the tour 5 stars because the service was great, the guide was kind, and it gave us peace of mind on our first visit. But if you’re comfortable driving and want to save money, doing it yourself is very doable.

My friends and I had planned a girl's trip in Death Valley. We had planned to visit the Racetrack and that part of the park requires a 4WD high clearance vehicle.

Unfortunately my friend's Bronco had some issues so we stopped here to have them take a look. Unfortunately it wasn't something they could easily take care of but they provided us with the numbers for triple A and other rentals.

Even as far as offering us a Jeep of theirs to use so we could still get out to the remote parts of the park.

Their kindness in a tough situation made our trip bearable.

Richard is a kind soul and we are incredibly grateful for his resourcefulness, helpfulness and kindness.

When we do this trip again we will definitely be looking into renting one of their jeeps!

I knew my street SUV with street tires wouldn't handle the road out to the racetrack so we rented a Jeep from them. They gave us great info on how to avoid tire damage, provided a map of the area, stocked us with a cooler with ice and water, and a way to contact them using a satellite communicator device in case we had problems. A very positive experience.

I've wanted to visit the Racetrack Playa since I was 14 years old. That's 50 years ago. So I was completely thrilled when I was able to rent a Jeep and make my dream come true! But adding to my happiness about this is the fact that Farabee's thought about everything we would ever possibly need, including loading our Jeep with ice and water, toilet paper, trash bag and a first aid kit. A lot of this we didn't need, but it was nice to have someone else do so much thinking and add all the personal touches! They also gave us an emergency notification device and showed us how to use it. The people at Farabee's were completely awesome and very kind. We had a terrific adventure and really enjoyed ourselves. Oh, also, the Jeep wasn't just a Jeep, it had all the current safety precautions and cameras as well as A/C and other "luxuries" we really were not expecting. Such a great trip! Thank you Farabee's!

Everything about our experience with Farabee's was first class! When I called to make reservations for a jeep tour, I spike with the owner who was friendly and helpful beyond just getting us squared away. We booked the three hour Echo Canyon tour, and are so glad we did. Our guide/driver, Hal, was a wealth of historical and practical information about Death Valley. We chose a tour rather than renting on our own, mostly to get an idea of what to see and how best to see those things. Hal took us on roads we could not have done in our vehicle, and gave us ideas for when we return. The next time we'll definitely visit Farabeee's again either to rent or to take another tour.

While we may have been able to explore Echo Canyon and Cottonwood Canyon in our own vehicle, I can now safely say that it wouldn't have been nearly as fun and worry-free as doing it all in a Jeep that likely has better-than-stock tires and great suspension. Lots of whoops of joy from the back seat even though I had scaled back my ambitions a bit for this first foray because our 4 Jeep convoy included ages 21 months to almost 80 years old. I will definitely be back for Titus, Chloride Cliffs, and The Playa in a year or two. Farabee's fills a legitimate need in Death Valley and they do it very well. The Jeeps all worked great with no surprises over our 2 day rental. Kyler's advice and directions were spot on. They care about their clients. This was my third visit to Death Valley, the second visit for some of my crew and we had a bunch of first timers as well.

Death Valley is exceptional, especially when viewed off the beaten path from a Jeep. We had a very good experience with Farabee's Jeep Rentals in Furnace Creek. Their website has good off-road drive suggestions and allows reservations, which are recommended. They provide a map, have personal experience with each track, and offer a liberal mileage (200 mi) allowance. Farabee supplies an ice chest with water and a SPOT satellite locator. The Jeeps are very clean and in good condition. The tires are unique, with lots of ply and low inflation, so they float on the gravel roads. We went south to Twenty Mule Team, a dirt one-way loop with the entrance at the north end, and then to Dante's View, which is 3,000 feet above Badwater and has a spectacular view. The hidden gem is the drive to the Inyo Mine. The canyon drive is dirt and exciting; enjoy the view slowly. Be sure to hike up to the mine and see the shaft. Then, go off to Badwater and walk the salt flats, then to Artist Pallet, a one-way but paved with a south entrance. The second stop is the best, and do the hike. Next, drive to the Natural Bridge and hike the wash to view. Finish up with a drive out to the Devil's Golf Course. Carry extra water and a hat everywhere. Farabee’s has a very comfortable, low-stress return policy at the end of the day. Highly recommend this family business.

Stopped by the gas station next door to see if they could patch my tire, they sent me here. Not only did they patch a huge gash in my tire that they wouldn’t let me pay for because they couldn’t guarantee the patch. The fix lasted the 830 miles home, the 4000 miles to the east coast and back and another week before the tire shop could get me a new tire.

Fantastic service, friendly, honest, would definitely go again
