We stayed there last weekend, it was very basic but we were not expecting the Ritz, just somewhere clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic, the deer are amazing ||It is very badly kept. Exterior door locks were broken, there was also a spindle missing from the rear balcony, dangerous when you have young children with you. The main annoyance was a major lack of communication. I was told to spk to the manager Rachel, who I left 5 messages for and she never returned one of them. I had not received any correspondence on when and how the balance was to be paid or even a receipt for my deposit. We arrived to a board telling us we were not staying in the accommodation, we thought we were but down the road. She asked me to contact her when we arrived, which I did and left an answerphone message, which yet again I never received a reply from. It is a shame, with a bit of money spent on them and better service they could be lovely duplexes

We had two nights here as part of our Florida holiday.||It is a spacious apartment and very comfortable. Ed and Ellen do not live here but Rachel will look after you. ||There is a lounge area, kitchen area, barbecue, bathroom, lounge area and two bedrooms. The kitchen is well equipped but you need to bring a travel Kettle if you require one. ||It is located in a quiet spot in the beautiful Big Pine Key. We spotted some very pretty birds one morning. If you like us are hoping to see the deer, we noticed the best time to see them was dusk, they loved the apples we bought for them. ||There are restaurants and a supermarket nearby.

We stayed here for two nights in February. There is a wooden staircase up to the unit that might be challenging for anyone who cannot do stairs easily. We got takeout from a restaurant a couple miles away and ate dinner on the back porch. We also watched the sunset from the front porch. The unit in which we stayed had two private bedrooms with double beds, and the "couches" in the living room are actually twin beds, so three more people can sleep in the living room on beds. The living room is very spacious. This is not a luxury location, it's just the basics, but the kitchen does have utensils, plates, and cups. It does have air-conditioning, but in February, we didn't need the a/c. We never did figure out how to connect to the internet, as we couldn't find any information about the wifi, and my emails to the owners went unanswered. It is a typical beach house type of place, and since it is in the Keys, you can expect to pay Keys prices for a stay here.

Our family had a wonderful time we enjoyed grilling on the back deck for our Thanksgiving dinner, the keys deer were really cool to see and my sons had blast fishing off the back dock in Canal their we even had fresh fish from the canal for our dinner, my only two complaints are the beds are not that soft and the kitchen could be equipped with better selection of cooking utensils we had to improvise and place is little dated but overall I highly recommend this place a must go to is NO NAME PUB great Pizza and really cool atmosphere. We will be back.

We drove by this house before we realized it was the rental unit we’d reserved and actually made fun of the building and the rickety staircase – my Mother-in-law was nearly in tears when she realized that was where she was staying. But she was insistent on staying on Big Pine Key (we are locals) to be near our home. When she told us where she’d booked before her arrival, we tried to talk her out of it but she had pre-paid and couldn’t get her money back. Unlike most hotels that have a 24-hour cancellation policy - once you book you’re stuck.||||Stairs and decking, both front and back, are in dire need of replacement. Nails sticking up, soft spots due to rot – she wouldn’t even go onto the back deck because it looked so unsafe.||||Couches in the unit are actually twin beds with bolster pillows against the wall. Old-school TVs-remotes don’t work, took two days to find the volume control on the top of the television. Refrigerator makes scary noises all through the night. Mother-in-law had difficulty locking the sliding glass door. Desalination water pump outside runs constantly and is loud, making enjoying the outside impossible.||||Nails in the wall with no art, lumpy carpet in the unit. She spent most of her time at our place because no one wanted to hang out in her rental house.||||Terribly overpriced for what is provided. Bottom line, this rental would only be acceptable for a group of 10 college guys on a fishing trip. Please don’t choose this for your vacation rental. Stay in Marathon or at Parmer’s Resort on Little Torch Key.

I've been staying at Ed and Ellen's Big Pine location on Narcissus since 2010. Ed is a friendly guy... never had a cross word with him, Ellen, or Rachel. The place is basic, but the TVs work, the beds are comfortable, and the kitchen has plenty of flatware, plates, beverage cups, and coffee cups. I left one of my own in 2014, came back next year and it was still there. As for "rickety" stairs, or balcony, that isn't true. The grill has always been functional There are always deer on Narcissus, so that's a bonus. If you're a snoot or a snob, this might not be your cup of tea. If you came to enjoy the Keys in a clean Air Conditioned 2BR one bath unit, this is your place..There are hoses downstairs to rinse boats, dive, and fishing gear and the canal is steps away from the unit. Thanks Ed! || Capt. Jim Stone|| Pensacola, FL

We weren't expecting anything fancy when we booked Ed & Ellen's but we also weren't expecting it to be such a dive. It's not a place you want to hang out. We were prepared to stick it out and suffer (didn't want to pay for another room elsewhere) but the serious bug--possibly roaches--infestation in the ceiling of every room was enough for us to pack our bags and leave within an hour of our arrival. ||||Upon trying to reach Rachel or Ed in order to discuss a refund that night and next day, our multiple calls & emails went unreturned. When I finally got Ed on the phone, he immediately started screaming at me, blaming us for the bugs--saying we left the door open. I assure you we did not. During check-in Rachel told us that she recently had the exterminator take care of her unit and the one next door...maybe it's time they do the same for this unit. I think guests would greatly appreciate it. ||||During his screaming fit, Ed also stated that there are bugs and alligators and crocodiles and birds and deer and rodents all over the keys and this great wide world...and challenged me "to find a place that isn't filled with bugs in the Keys?" ||||Then he hung up on me. ||||Well get this...we checked in to the Hyatt in Marathon and slept like critter-free KINGS (plus, free breakfast). Also, it was cheaper per night than Ed & Ellen's. WTF. ||||P.s. we stayed at multiple other spots in the Keys and no bugs!

We loved it! Exactly as we expected. People who are giving this a bad review, do your research. This pics online of the place are just as it is. It is old, sure, it could be updated, but don't give it a bad review because of that. If you don't like the old school Keys, then get a room at the Hyatt. We loved it! We met Ed personally, very nice man. The manager onsite, Rachel, was so friendly. Very hospitable people. We'd go back in a heartbeat! Treat them with respect, and they will treat you with respect.
