We drove from Las Vegas the day we arrived - in about 8.5 hrs - and a beautiful drive with great roads. The 30-mile drive from the highway to the ranch is on a good, gravel road can take about an hour. Very scenic so slow down and take a few pics. Note: RVs should make sure all bins and doors are sealed - as dust will find a way inside (and it did anyway.) We stayed in the ranch's RV park - space for about 12 vehicles. It was tucked under trees and in good condition. The night we stayed was just ourselves and a couple of others who were there for elk hunting. Owner Vicky stopped by to chat and to answer our questions about her and her husband's ranch. This was an exploratory stop for us (1 night, which was too short). We would come back for horseback riding and with our ATV and mountain bikes to take advantage of the many miles of Forest Service roads adjacent to their large ranch. We visited the horses - several were curious about us and came to the fence to say hello and to get a nose rub. Beautiful, strong-looking horses. Visited the lodge lobby; it was amazing. This working ranch and guest house is a hidden, out-of-the-way gem.

This is my second trip to the Ranch and I will definitely go back. Stayed here while deer and elk hunting in area 72 and it sure beats camping. Rooms have private baths and the lodge is decorated in traditional cowboy. Staff is friendly and the owners Vicki and AG are great. All meals are provided but be sure to bring your own adult beverages. Rates are very reasonable if you are there hunting vs doing their whole riding program.

What an incredible experience it was to rest and play at the Cottonwood Ranch. The facilities are immaculate and their horses are a joy to ride. This is not your average ranching outfit. They really know how to look after people well as well as their land. Got to see beaver dams, land restoration, holistic grazing and such a diversity of birds and wildlife. Very very inspired, I will be back!

This is a belated review as I visited in August 2014 for the Horse Drive. I am due to return for a Ranch Stay this August (2015) and can't wait!!!. Firstly, I cannot in the slightest way relate to the 2 negative reviews posted here on Tripadvisor and, based on my experience and many others who have visited, I feel these 2 reviews are grossly unfair and totally unrepresentative of the true experience. ||On arrival at the Cottonwood Ranch you feel warmly welcomed into a relaxed setting which is complimented by the beautiful landscape all around. The Horse drive itself is an outstanding experience, moving alongside a herd of horses at varying speed on your own very secure mount, the landscape presenting the vast openness of the American west, but also in places, its intimate sheltered slopes and valleys with huge stunning skies above. The camp settings after a hard day's ride provide a wonderful relaxed evening, great food and fine hospitality. An entertaining and very hard working crew ensure you want for nothing and the interaction between all soon makes you feel a part of team with purposeful 'real' horseback riding which is central to the work of the Cottonwood ranch. The horse(s) you ride will become a close companion within the adventure and the crew make it clear that if you have any questions or concerns to just ask and they will address to satisfaction. This is not a nose to tail riding unit and you are given freedom to ride how you want and you soon learn to move as the task of moving herd requires, and if you are a novice or even a complete beginner then your horse is carefully selected to ensure your confidence grows within your first couple of mounted hours with the support of the Cottonwood Cowboys n' Gals, from then on it's a dream which you don't want to wake up from. I will certainly do this again and look forward to every aspect, the place, the people and the horses. My thanks to all at the Cottonwood.

We spent a few days in the most beautiful, peaceful country with the nicest hosts. The wholesome food was deliciously prepared by the Ranch's chef. We rode horses with the sweetest and calmest demeanors, hiked gorgeous back country and relaxed to our heart's content. We could have helped wrestle some cattle from one field to another but decided we'd leave that to younger, stronger folks. You can do whatever you like here and the hosts will arrange it for you.

A group of us arrived for an overnight stay and chanced upon branding day and a birthday party! Cowboys (and cowgirls) had converged to help with branding at the ranch. True to a working ranch, as we passed by the corrals we were welcomed for the weekend! Upon arrival at the lodge we were greeted by Chef Ettesvold, delicious cookies and our rooms waiting for us! We enjoyed a great dinner with the group of neighbors and staff at the ranch and shared the many traditions of round up and branding. The rooms were comfortable and breakfast the next morning was delightful. We will be back!

As I sit here my last morning here at the ranch, I am blown away by any low rating this place has been given. I was somewhat influenced by the one stars here and there, but my gut told me just to remain positive.||I yearned for a place that would provide solitude, positive people, and just away from it "all" (crowds, cars, technology, work stress, etc), nature, balance, excitement. I've never done a ranch and really had ZERO expectations.||I was met with the two most sweetest young ladies (Taylor and Hunter) who quickly put me at ease. Hunter, that hug brushed away every bit of anxiety I felt. Every moment of my day was met with this utmost care and attention, to the point I felt so guilty of the attention!||Family dinner was absolutely amazing. I was in awe of sit down dinner with the ranch owners and their well-behaved grandkids. There is nothing more soothing that hearing kids laugh and play, run around the ranch and soak in the air and sun (in other words not having there heads glued to an iPad).||Joe, the chef - absolutely amazing. I manage executive chefs at 5-star facilities and nothing beats a chef with a personality (and great food of course!). Away went this so-called diet I tried to put myself on and was able to just enjoy good food and company with no pressure on myself,||Kyle - nothing more charming than a cowboy (not a ranch hand!) tipping his hat to a lady. Your hard work was certainly noticed, and your patience is/was so appreciated!||Note: I am a female "executive" and came here on this trip by myself. I was able to drop everything from my city life, and just live the moment.

The Cottonwood's greatest asset is their people! Always cheerful, friendly and wanting to help you in anyway they can. This was our 3rd stay in their RV camp and have always found them to be very welcoming and willing to assist you. Reservations with full hookups that take the worry out of finding a campsite especially during the height of the hunting season.
