Captain Barry’s Tour is a unique, and fun-filled experience! The vessel is a standard pontoon boat, but that’s not why you’re here. The adventure started off with us cruising the back bay, and seeing a pod of dolphins. It was really exciting, and they put on a show. From there Barry shared much of the history of the area; the geography, and some fun facts. At the stops, Barry had the kids on board searching for crabs, snails, shells, and oysters. Barry showed off his crab trap, which allows the kids to examine, and hold a live crab (pretty big!). Barry also got raw oysters, shucked them, and everyone who wanted one on board got one. The weather was perfect, and the water was calm. It was an interesting way to explore nature in a way I’d not done before. It was our first time at Chincoteague, and this really made it memorable. Barry’s a great storyteller, educator, fun, and funny. Highly recommend this tour.

Capn' Barry is a creator of fantastic memories for all. My kids loved going out (1990's and then again in 2010's as adults) and discovering all the goodies in the back bay. Informative, entertaining, and authentic. Go, seek adventure and never regret a great time with Capn' Barry

Captain Barry's tour was the single best part of our Chincoteague trip and I can't recommend it highly enough! Captain Barry has instant chemistry with kids and adults alike, and genuinely cares about teaching the ecology of the bay. Everyone had a great time.

Captain Barry was absolutely fantastic. He was so good with the kids (ages 8-10), including the one who wasn’t really feeling like participating. So many amazing memories and fun facts in just 2 hours!! Will definitely book again!! As soon as we got home, my son went for the conch shell and played it just like he learned from Captain Barry!!

I booked the Sunset Adult Only tour for a bachelorette weekend with Captain Barry. I cannot express how wonderful this tour was. Barry is so fun, knowledgeable, kind, and the best at what he does! We talked for hours about how fun we had. This is a must-do when visiting with friends. If you have kids, check out his other tours online! I can’t wait to book another tour SOON. We had the best day with Captain Barry. We couldn’t have wished for a better guide. He was engaging for our 12yr old nephew and ourselves. We pulled up crabs from his traps, trawled in little tide pools for shrimp and other critters, harvested, shucked and tasted local oysters, learned about migratory birds and so much more. Captain Barry made this a trip to remember forever!

This boat tour was great! I'm so glad we did it! Barry is super engaging and has great energy. It seemed like a great trip for kids but we enjoyed it just as much as a mid-30s couple. There were 3 others on the trip so it was a nice small group (I think he caps it at 6). We saw nesting laughing gulls, caught snails, fish, and crabs. We learned a ton about nature and what's going on in the bay, and a bit about how it connects to the broader bay economy. Very engaging all around. It was a little cool out so Barry provided everyone with nice warm jackets to use on the trip.

Best adventure on the island! I'm so glad we decided to go on Captain Barry's Back Bay adventure cruise, it was amazing and we have no regrets. Captain Barry is the Disney in this area.
I feel like we have a lifetime friendship with Captain Barry because of the love he shows for the island, the wildlife, and his visitors. He kept us entertained with many adventures, stories, and hands-on-science activities we'll never forget. Captain Barry adapts activities to all ages and everyone is engaged at all times. He limits the number of participants per cruise to allow for personalized interaction. There's so many things to say about the greatness of this adventure, but it's better for me to stop here so you can book your adventure with Captain Barry! Your kids will thank you!
