A popular rails to trails hiking/biking trail. Very gental slope. 27 miles with multiple trail heads. Exposed to sun during the day.

As rail to trails go, we did this and I'm glad we did. That said I doubt we'd do it again. It's an out and back and the out is uphill for 30km, then down for 10km, and the back is up for 10 and down for 30 and not much else. That's a lot of constant peddling with no breaks. Maybe our expectations were too high after riding on the Michaelson Trail in the Black Hills, where the terrain undulates much more. I'd recommend maybe riding out 20km and then turning around, you won't miss much. It's pretty but after 20km it's largely just the same forest and not much changes.

What a beautiful trail, a variety of plant life and animal life. It's a pretty easy hike with very little difficult spots. Visiting the trail often, everytime it is different with the changes of the seasons, the colors are stunning. Bring a water bottle, your dog, and your family and enjoy this walk.

This is the Susanville terminus of the Bizz Johnson Trail. It’s 25 miles to the other end. This side of the trail is the better one. It’s in the Susan River canyon. It’s pretty flat with tunnels and bridges. It’s an old rail bed from when they clearcut the old growth mostly to make boxes to ship fruit from California to the East. It’s best on a bike in my opinion but walking is also good. Parking is free.
