Last Saturday evening I attended the Night of High Adventure, sponsored by the Adventurers' Club of Los Angeles. Camaraderie and good cheer abounded. The keynote speaker was Emmy Award winning, underwater filmmaker Adam Ravetch. His close-up encounter films of polar bears and walrus populations held the audience spell-bound. Another terrific event!

Honestly, if you're looking for adventure, real adventure this is the place. Hands down best community I know in LA. They literally know everything, have been everywhere & if not- their ready to set up an adventure. Speakers top notch, full remodel of venue, food is amazing, donations bar. The club is private, however 9/10 weeks they are open to the public. Yes, the are the only mens club left in LA, but my wife comes nearly every week to events. They hold the values of male comradely yet know that women are badass too! 10/10

What a gem! The Club gathers for dinner every Thursday night. You're welcome to come explore the collections of artifacts our members collected from around the world. Our members include those adventurers who have flown in war and in peace, ascended the moon and dove the deepest water, to name a few. You are welcome as the club president's guest or Paul Wong's guest. Come, and be amazed!

It is an amazing and unique experience. Tons of 'exhibits' marking many adventurer accomplishments. You can dream along as you examine actual artifacts from grand and treacherous expeditions.
I will say, as a fellow adventurer, that the hunting displays seem out of place. The accomplishments of those who hide behind a trees to kill often docile animals from far away takes away from the awesome stories of brave souls who have accomplished something challenging and inspirational.
I spoke at the Club years ago and recently returned with that nights speaker, an amazing female solo sailing circumnavigator. As the lesser sailor, I was offered membership. As a woman she was not.

This all men's club is comprised of an amazing group of adventurers who have been all over the world trekking, diving, climbing, exploring and visiting remote corners of the planet. Meetings are held on Thursday evenings and guests are welcome to attend for dinner and the program.

A kayak rests in the dining room of the Adventurers’ Club of Los Angeles. Before coming to its final resting place within this hidden-in-plain-site treasure trove of adventurous objects, it once sailed the entire 4,258-mile length of the Nile river. Its occupant, John Goddard, was the first person to ever complete the journey. A vast collection of artifacts, such as a shrunken head, Pre-Columbian pottery, a quiver of poison spears, a clay pot containing human remains, a stuffed polar bear, a mammoth skull, the autographed helmet of a member whose bombing raid on Japan helped alter the course of World War II, can found at the club’s headquarters in LA’s Lincoln Heights.

Established in 1922 by Captain John Roulac, the club has gathered for the past 95 years to share their extraordinary expeditions. Currently, they have over 100 members from a wide variety of professions including scientists, journalists, artists, doctors, pilots, archaeologists, soldiers, mountaineers, hunters, and astronauts. The members’ travels have taken them to the most remote corners of the world and beyond, and their harrowing experiences have lead to remarkable discoveries.

Although founded as a “Gentlemen’s Club” Ladies Nights are showing up on the calendar with increased frequency (almost every meeting) and the club never turns guests away. We hope membership will soon be open to all, regardless of gender.

This club, nearly a century old, has members who have accomplished amazing feats, from diving into the deepest part of the ocean, to walking, literally, on the moon. Though it's a private men's organization, women are welcome as guests on Ladies Nights. Here, the spirit of adventure shines brightly!
