I was concerned about the negative reviews myself when I read them. We too booked the room as part of the Dinner Train Ride. We were not at all disappointed. We also added on an extra day so we could celebrate for the weekend and "play tourist" in Spooner. ||||Upon check in, we were told that the shuttle wasn't running. I was very disappointed because it was our anniversary and we knew we were going to want to share some wine with dinner, so we definitely didn't want to drive. When walking around the afternoon before the dinner, the Chamber told us of a person who shuttles people around (there is NO Uber or Lyft). By the time we got back to the room to start getting dressed for the ride, the Motel had contacted the person and secured us all a ride to and from the train depot in Trego. ||||So what started out as a "could be disappointment" they fixed immediately.||||The room was clean. The bed was super comfy! Yes the paint on the outside door was peeling a bit. The room was small to be sure, but we were only sleeping it in. The TV was also small, but we never turned it on, so it didn't matter. We were pleased to see the refrigerator and coffee pot, that's generally all we need. The A/C worked fine. We looked at both the pool and spa and remarked how clean they were, and the area around the pool as well. The grounds were nicely maintained. ||||We knew we weren't reserving a room in a 5 star resort; the price tells you that. But in terms of comfort and cleanliness, it was definitely cleaner and more comfy than a room 3 times the price. ||||For the price, we expected exactly what we paid for. A nice clean room with a very comfortable bed. And the staff was helpful, courteous, and very friendly. ||||We will definitely return for another train ride and I definitely recommend both the ride and the Country House Motel.

We loved this motel! First off, the two dogs that greeted us along with the owner were super friendly and loved the attention we gave them. The place itself was very clean, quiet and had plenty of green space for our dogs to snoop. Many small, homey touches gave the rooms an up north cabin kind of feel, versus a motel. The beds/pillows were very comfortable and the fridge was good sized too. A fan in the room was a major bonus!
I highly recommend this motel if you want a quiet, comfortable night's rest and like supporting local, small businesses that are very dog friendly. We'll be back!

My husband booked this room in conjunction with the dinner train ride as an anniversary surprise. We were surprised. ||||This motel needs updating. Looks like they resurfaced the front, but our room was in back. Reminded me of a sleezy motel. Three handicapped parking spots in front of our room so we couldn’t park nearby. We were greeted in office/lobby by two dogs, which followed the maids when cleaning, too. ||||Though the room seemed clean enough, and we did like the pine plank siding on one wall and ceiling, most of the furniture looked like it came from a resale shop. (I love treasure hunting thrift stores, but they have junk. Too.) The bed was from 2014 and comfortable, though the box spring was exposed. The bathroom had only a small square shower, no tub, covered by a shower curtain plastic liner cut short to fit. Not much elbow room, and I’m skinny. Small bottle of shampoo and bar of soap provided. ||||Small microwave and fridge provided. Internet worked at night but not in morning. All rooms have outdoor entrance and indoor entrance. We did not use pool||Or hot tub so I cannnot comment in them. The room was warm even though we turned off the heat (upper 30’s at night outside.)||||My husband said they had a $49 special room rate when he booked and that's about what it was worth. We really would have been disappointed if we paid $99/night. ||||Clean up the outside, repaint, repair, sweep. Put some character and care into||The place. Replace old furniture . Hang a real shower curtain. Keep it modestly priced. You could have a good thing.

Wife & I wanted a close by getaway. I booked 3 nights at the Country House motel in Spooner Wisc. & planned a leisure time relaxing & seeing some sights. We found out when we got there that most places were closed for the season! Oh well, we found a couple places of interest, some very good places to eat & decided to make the most of it. At least we had a pool & Jacuzzi to use. The room was very clean & had 2 double beds, not our 1st choice, but they were very comfortable. The young lady taking care off the front desk & doing all the cleaning was very nice & made us feel very welcome. Each morning we got up we watched deer feeding only a few yards from us. We were on the back side of the motel so it was quiet & peaceful. The TV was smaller than the screen I'm sitting in front of as I write this review. The owners really need to open the purse strings a bit & replace the furniture as the finish on most of it is worn to bare wood! We wanted to use the pool to wear off some of the good food we had but found that the heater was broken so the water was ice cold! I can't use a Jacuzzi so my wife decided to skip it. A man we talked to on our 2nd morning said he & his wife planned on 3 nights also but the queen bed they had sagged so bad his wife slept on the floor! They checked out after the 1st night. All in all, we plan on visiting the area again, but we'll probably stay somewhere else, although for the money it was an ok place to stay.

The Country House Motel exceeded my expectations. The bathrooms were recently redone and the entire place was very clean. The rooms are smaller but very nice. A couple specifics... a nice flat screen TV with a very wide selections of stations in the room, and I liked the direct access to the outside for unloading and loading the car. There is also a door into the central hallway. If you need someplace close to eat, there is a beer & grill place and a grocery store with a deli both within walking distance.

We stayed here as part of the Dinner Train package, had a king room in the back facing the RV park. Friendliest check-in experience I think I've ever had in my life! I like the fact you can park right outside your door PLUS there is an inner hallway door that takes you to pool, vending & front desk. Exceptionally clean (and I'm very picky!), comfortable beds, our room had a small shower but that was fine, just be for warned. I'd definitely stay again!!!!

Although the motel accommodation was apart of the Pizza Train package I was still somewhat disappointed with the experience of the motel. I can't complain too much on the room itself although there was a old urine stain on the lid of the toilet and the bathroom amenities were not replaced as the shampoo was open and already used. The good things about the room were that there was a sufficient amount of clean towels and extra pillows and the beds were decent and somewhat comfortable, there was a fridge, coffee machine, and a television. Outside of the room my experience wasn't too good, heading into the tourist information room there was supposed to be a soda machine which there was not and the snack machine was nearly empty and the coffee machine did not work. Not to mention, the ice machine was out of order. Also, there was not internet due to the modem apparently being down which was disappointing because no one in my family had working phones to be able to look up nearby restaurants or things to do. One thing I somewhat liked was that we were next to the pool area although the enjoyment of being near it did not last long, as a very rude group of people came in and were swearing and were saying things such as "Ugh there's kids, we can't do that now!" and were just being plain rude. Also one of the group members around 1 AM went around the motel knocking obnoxiously loud on every door looking for someone and did not stop for ten minutes. Not to mention these folks were at the pool at 4:25 in the morning, when the pool's lights were out and was supposed to be closed. The folks were doing some very inappropriate adult things which should not be done in a motel pool and kept screaming and hollering as well, we kindly told them to be quiet twice but they refused and kept screaming and swearing, we called the motel hotline but no one answered which I can understand, but these folks kept on going for a good thirty more minutes, also they were apparently drunk and had a dog in the pool as well. Also outside the motel someone left used diapers laying in the drive way. I understand that you can not control these things but I wish something would of been done in order to keep these problems at bay. |Although the staff was very kind and friendly as the day we left our car battery died and we needed a jump start which one of the staff members gladly and quickly gave us! We are very thankful for that as none of our phone's worked! |For the price you pay this is an alright motel, it just needs some minor improvements here and there.

I would NOT recommend this place. The room rented had no key to the pool room, ( Taken by whom ever stayed beforehand ) 80 deg. in the room and when you set the thermostat to 45 it still didn't cool down. ( Summer time ) Fireplace didn't work. A bag of syringes were found in the couch. ( They didn't CLEAN after others stayed....GROSS!! ) Rent the rooms at your own risk. Better yet, Stay at a better motel. Or a tent. Not good business for a small town.
