We were greeted by our host, Alan, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. He had us fill out a small form and offered us some red wine as we got acquainted with each other and our home for the night. Because snow was on the way, we were the only guests to brave the weather, and so we had the house to ourselves and Allen was so kind to upgrade us for this reason. He encouraged us to walk around the property to see all the rooms and such as we sipped on our wine. All the rooms very unique, amazing art, and antique furniture! We were introduced to Sweetie, the house parrot, who was such a flirt and loves attention. I had told Allen prior to our arrival that I was intending to propose to my girlfriend this particular weekend and that I was going to be taking her to a winery or two, and so Allen had free tasting coupons from several local wineries ready for us. When we arrived back that evening, Allen celebrated our proposal with us and we enjoyed great conversation. It was clear that Allen was very good at picking up on indicators to know if his guests prefer to be left alone or engage in conversation and he was accommodating to both. The next morning we awoke to several inches of snow, and also an incredible breakfast spread: amazing homemade granola with fresh yogurt, DELICIOUS homemade French toast, eggs, bacon, toast, real maple syrup sourced locally along with local jams and such, with hot tea, orange juice, coffee, ice water, and a beautiful display of fresh grapefruit with sugar sprinkled on top with a maraschino cherry (triangles already cut so it was ready to enjoy!!). Because of the snow, and my new fiancé struggling with a headache, Allen was gracious enough to let us take our time checking out later than the standard check-out time. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are discussing renting the whole property for our wedding next year. Regardless, we will definitely be back to visit this incredible B&B!

My husband booked the Ebenezer B&B for my birthday - and he was excited to have found it. A reasonably priced, 4.8 star reviewed B&B near all the great things (wineries, Charlottesville, etc.) and was dog friendly!!!… well, it was definitely reasonably priced, central and our dog was made MOST welcome... but I honestly do not understand all the 5 star reviews... ||||Driving up, it looked as the pictures show, cute, older, house surrounded by a yard... a bit unkept, but all is generally well. Then, we walked in the house, and were hit in the face by the smell of old, deeply stale cigarette smoke. It was strong and it was everywhere - which was super surprising since the website mentioned it was a "smoke free" hotel. We don't smoke. But, ok, we'll push through (nothing can be done now). Met Alan, a very nice man (and I now believe he is the reason for the 5-star reviews, he is so nice and inviting that you don't want to hurt his feelings). He took us up to our room and showed us our bathroom, up the stairs in the older portion of the house (warning, its unattached from the bedroom). All seemed ok. Then we started settling in and started to notice how old the place and all the things are.... the mattress was saggy and old... the quilt/comforter ragged and thin... carpet was threadbare... the towels in the bathroom musty, shaggy and old... there are odd old toiletries hanging out all around the bathroom... I am 100% a supporter of antiques and holding on to things until they are unusable, but for the items people see, not the items people need to use - towels should be new-ish and bleachable, if you're going to offer shampoo, it should fresh, people should feel comfortable walking barefoot in the bedroom.... Note, the tub was wonderful, deep, water was hot - my absolute favorite part of our stay! ||||Our nights sleeps were fine, its a quite area, no road noise. We did hear creatures in the walls, probably mice running through the walls/attic (which didn't bug me, I grew up in the country, but my husband was horrified). We also had a couple bug incidents in the room, a wasp like creature few out of the closet area and we found a few stink bugs. The stale cigarette smoke smell ever present, even in the room. And at one point, new cigarette smoke wafting up the stairs.||||The first night there was no wine/local beer/snacks hour as advertised (we arrived around 4pm, according to the website we were there prior to its setup)... and the second night there was only port available (which was very tasty). Alan did surprise us with a delicious cordial one evening, which was absolutely lovely. We enjoyed the game room/lounge one evening with some TV and board games. ||||Alan, is a good cook, our breakfasts were lovely. Warning, he comes out with his bird Sweety at breakfast - it was unexpected and both days we were there Sweety flew off Alan's shoulder and flew over the breakfast table. We luckily like animals, but I can see this as something some need to be warned of. Alan sat with the guests at breakfast and we all chatted. He made our dog feel so welcome with treats and unlimited affection/pets He is a really good guy. This house is so full of his own history, his family's history. You can see the pride. Which might explain many of the problems we had, him not wanting to let go of the memories and replace with more customer friendly, new/clean items.||||I am writing this review now, because, I ran into a friend who had stayed in the same hotel and we sat swapping stories for quite some time about everything mentioned above! They experienced all the same things (even stayed in the same room!!) and they had also chose this B&B based of the high star rating. We all agreed we probably wouldn't have (or would've had more realistic expectations) if there were more fair, honest reviews about the actual place instead of its wonderful host.

This is not a standard b&b - it's a home - a place to sit back and enjoy life. Squeaky clean and sterile - no - lived in and comfortable - yes. Welcoming to both people and pets and with Sweetie to invite you in and provide "conversation". Alan greets you with a smile and helps you settle in - provides good company - and offers the most delicious breakfast. The wine tasting coupons are a good way to past a day and the covered porch the place for evenings. Hope we are in the area again to visit.

Quiet and peaceful and one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Fresh fruit, homemade granola with homemade yogurt, unique French toast casserole with real maple syrup, eggs, and great coffee. Alan made the breakfast vegetarian for us and gave us extra coffee for our thermos. Room was cozy with cute decorative touches. Loved walking around the grounds and hearing the frogs.

The Good: Super Cute B&B with lots of great public spaces and a wonderful breakfast. Our host, Alan, was responsive and informative. The B&B itself is a converted church decorated with lots of antiques and interesting things to look at. There are lots of places to sit and relax. There is also lots of magazines and games as well as two TVs in the public areas. There is coffee, tea, soda, and even wine available. The well water tastes fantastic. Alan has a pet Cockatoo who is well trained and friendly. He brought the bird out at breakfast and we could pet him or have him sit on our arm of shoulder. The wifi worked great.
The Bad: The bed could be more comfortable. The sheets were soft but there was a hole in the fitted sheet. The mattress was a bit rickety. Sadly, a guest sleeping in the room adjacent to ours snored loudly all night. There was also a skylight in the room which meant light waking me up earlier than I would have liked. I should have brought an eye mask and ear plugs.
Other Info: Breakfast was served at 9 am. There was delicious yogurt, fresh fruit and granola. The hot foods served were scrambled eggs, bacon, and a french toast like dish which was delicious. There was also bread for toast as well as coffee, tea, and orange juice.

I stayed for three nights and I enjoyed every single one of them. It was amazing and unique experience. The host ( Alan) is an outstanding welcoming character. ||The area is beautiful, the house is comfortable and the porch seating is my favorite.

We enjoyed our stay at Ebenezer House B&B. It was a great location that felt rural while also close to Charlottesville and some good hiking. It's not that easy to travel with our 60lb dog and we appreciated that Ebenezer House B&B was happy to have him. Breakfast was also delicious. Only drawbacks were that the mattress and shower seemed a little worn.

I took my wife here for mother's day and we had a great experience! The proprietor, Alan, was a VERY good host and really accommodating. Breakfast was good and our room was comfortable. I would recommend staying here if you are in the area.
