I visited the Crane Trust on my way to Gibbon for the Sandhill Cranes migration. The friendly staff provided great information. Inside, the walls showcase paintings and portraits by talented artists. There's a trail to the river and a chance to see buffalo. Before leaving, you can fill out a postcard, and they'll send it for you.

Love the Bison! What a great property run in conjunction with the US National Wildlife Service. Nice visitor center with art gallery, gift shop, snacks and bathrooms. Parking is plentiful and large enough for any size rig or RV. Bison heard happened to be right outside the visitor center. Great hiking trails about the property. I had 3 bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming throughout the property.

Everyone there was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the animals and happy to talk with you. Their preserve has a few miles worth of nature trails that were gorgeous and easy to find and navigate. Their building had a great gift shop and tons of photographs and art pieces available to purchase. They also have a good bit of educational / informational materials about the animals and the land they're surrounded by. I'm so glad I was able to explore their center and trails and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cool little adventure. I was also told the best time to see the birds is in March when they migrate here in huge numbers!

I’ve stopped by the Crane Trust Visitor Center many times over the years. This was the first time to do an evening blind tour. The orientation presentation was informative and helpful to get all of us organized to drive out to the blinds about a mile further south.

The blinds were well located with a view out onto the river. Trevor was our volunteer host. He was friendly, sharing a great deal of local knowledge.

We didn’t have the fanciest camera to get up close with the birds but the borrowed binoculars were appreciated. Just take the time to enjoy the sunset and hear the birds landing in the river. It’s worth experiencing!

Such a nice place. Wonderful, informative exhibits, excellent art for sale, terrific volunteer staff, and a very enticing gift shop. Taking the loop way back to I-80, we found about 700-800 cranes feeding in a field on County Road 9.

Closed before on 4:00 Saturday during peak Sand Crane migration. Closed on Sunday.
There are buffalo in the distance and cows and calf’s hiding behind 6 ft fences.
Drove over 9 hours. What a disappointment!

I recommend other locations that are OPEN to actually see Sand Cranes.

The work they do to preserve this migratory crane sanctuary is amazing. Active preservation, but also education to further appreciation of the cranes. This is a gem of conservation initiatives in the region, so if you're going through Nebraska during their migration, a visit is a must. Years may vary, but late March early April? Note! There is a observation deck just up the road, please don't park your car on the side of the road, there will be a lot of cranes you won't want to miss 👌
