A hidden gem! Lucky us we stayed at the Ranch House where we got to see the comings and goings of the staff who manage the many feeders. So much wildlife to see and unmatched birding opportunities. The area is quiet (no pets allowed) and the people are beyond helpful.

An exceptional setting. Apartment 3 is actually wheelchair accessible with bathroom grab bars in the right places and a large roll in shower that just needs a bigger shower chair. The furnishings and decorative items feel like stepping into someone’s home, older, mismatched, perfect. Bring your own groceries, the Portal store is quite limited although their cafe is excellent. The kitchen is spotless and fully equipped right down to colander, ice tea pitcher, pots and pans, Saran Wrap and foil. Loved all the little touches. Jar of bird seed on desk as a platform feeder is outside the front porch. The main building feeders include many hummingbird feeders, suet, jam, sunflower and thistle as well as peanut butter. Other wildlife abounds. Our all time favorite place to visit and stay.

Gorgeous location and definitely out in the country but close to the national forest and the outdoors. Rustic but very nice. Staff was friendly and catered two dinners for us as well as breakfast. All was just great. Very accomodating for gluten free diets.I would not hesitate to go again.

This simple spot offers rustic cabins with vistas that won my heart. We stayed in casita #4 and the view of the mountains from the back porch was spectacular. It backs up to Cave Creek and would be even more beautiful if there had been water, but we visited in dry season. The grounds are dotted with bird feeders and the resident deer, coati, and turkeys visited throughout the day. The bird feeders attracted all kinds of birds. I was enchanted by this place and can’t wait to return. Wi-Fi available only at the office, but I think that’s great.

If you are looking for comfortable, well kept, rustic (but not dumpy) accommodations in a beautiful setting, surrounded by wildlife you will find that here. We feed turkeys in the morning at our back door, watched javelinas wandering by, searched for birds like the Elegant Trogon in the trees by the office, and hiked all day each day we were here. Great place. One of a kind.

Beautiful location, animals everywhere and trails are gorgeous. WiFi never worked while I was there.

Four stars because there are too many border patrol agents in this area. Lots of speed traps on the way to this hotel. Also 30 minutes away if you want food or gas after sunset.

No cell service, so it's a great retreat to really purge from social media. There's a lot of human habituated wildlife here, so great opportunities to observe and photograph deer, javelina, coati, and all kinds of birds. Rooms are great, with kitchen amenities and full bathrooms, gorgeous views. No TV. A perfect place for anyone who truly enjoys the outdoors. We had a great time here.

Although we were disappointed they were charging high season rates during the heat of July, the whole experience was absolutely unforgettable and marvelous! The staff were fabulous, informative and helpful beyond all measure. The birds, turkeys, deer, and my personal favorite surprise were the frogs in the pond at dawn. Highly recommended!
