Winding River Campground is a kids and pet friendly, family owned and operated beautiful campground on the banks of the Great Egg Harbor River.
Kayaking and tubing adventures are organized daily, they transport you up the river and you get to land right back at the campground. Kayaks and tubes can be rented if you don’t have your own.
There’s a small beach along the river, fishing is a fun activity done at the bulkhead.
The sites are very large, not crowded and your slide won’t smack your neighbors awning. Everyone comes, from massive Class A to the smallest tents. Most sites are relatively level and shaded.
Highly recommend for everyone !!
Large, clean pool
Well stocked campground store, small arcade and pool table in the game room.
Organized activities almost every weekend.

I can't speak for the campground because I didn't stay there. However, the kayaking (even with low water levels) was awesome. My son and I went with his scout troop, and we love it. Definitely going back!

Me and my family just came back from a small 3 day camping trip staying at a cabin. the cabin was pretty clean there was a little dirt as expected from staying at a campground. the cabin was kept cold from air conditioning and it the beds were very comfy. there was what looked like a stove that was very old but it’s okay bc we love cooking on the fire. tubing is a 10/10 experience you they take you out in a big white van on what seemed like a 15 minute drive and you cruise down the river there is parts where you have to paddle away from sticks and parts where it’s really shallow but it’s a nature that’s what your signing up for. (I do recommend a mesh bottom if you want to bring food or your phones) also the workers there are super nice they let me and my friend play pool until it closed and they were very kind to us every time we went in the store. The bathhouses are a little older you can tell from walking in but it still works perfectly fine the showers were hot and they give you a place to change it was a great experience compared to other campgrounds. there isn’t much to do once it gets late but sitting at the lake is very peaceful and walking around and admiring the other campers is a good way to pass time. Overall i recommend this campground we had a great time

It's a beautiful campground but they desperately need new ownership. We just stayed here about a week ago with our new R-Pod RP-193 and the grounds were great, but the first night a golf cart came flying up to the campsite adjacent to us where some kids were playing and a man jumps out and starts screaming at them. We're talking about kids under 10 years old. We had no idea what was going on but the parents ran up and seemed as confused as we were. The guy was ballistic because apparently they were playing with a small kids basketball and for some reason that was offensive to him. A crowd gathered and we tried to calm him down, along with the parents who looked genuinely scared for their kids, but he screamed that he was the owner of the campground and that it was private property so if we don't like it we can leave. He was sure to include "don't expect a refund!" Eventually the parents called the police and other folks there kept him away from the family, so he cursed a bunch and then sped off. It was really the craziest camping experience I've ever had, so I'll give it that, but definitely not taking my kids back there until they get new people running it. It'd be five stars with the right owners, but I can't reward someone who thinks it's okay to treat people, much less children that way, so I gave it just one well earned star. If you go here, avoid the owner at all costs. Had no issues with anyone else there.

I took my family here after reading the positive reviews about the wooded camping area and possibility for tubing and kayaking. The grounds are certainly beautiful for the area. However, when we got back from kayaking, the gentleman who was waiting for us began to openly critique that we were over 5 minutes late, repeatedly stating "It's just ridiculous". When my wife said to him that we were told we had until 5pm to be back, according to his own staff and program, and it wasn't even 4:30 yet, he became incredibly irate. I stepped in to stop him from yelling at my wife and children and told them we would just walk back to collect our vehicle rather than get into the van with him. As we walked away he yelled "this is why we shouldn't let n-words on our property." We walked away despite this so as to keep our kids out of danger. When we walked through the camping area just above the kayak ramp, a few of the people there heard what happened and asked if we were okay. They explained that the person down there was actually the new owner who took over the entirety of the management of the campgrounds and that this is not the first time they heard or saw him become angry or even violent with customers there, to the point that the police had needed to be called more than once. Long story short, the new owner here is a lunatic and a racist so I would certainly recommend finder a better place to camp or enjoy nature. I definitely won't give him another dime of my money.

My husband was called white trash by one of the “part owners”.

My husband and I brought 8 adults and 3 kids to this campground where we stayed two years ago and had a great time in the past so we were excited to have that same experience.

At one point, my husband and I needed to leave the site to go to a near by store. When I drove the car back to the site, I pulled over into a safe, out of the way area to get out of the car to allow my husband to back into the parking spot as I will be the first to admit I don’t know how to back up into a parking spot. A seemingly drunk woman started yelling that where I pulled over I could not park. I laughed and said “I know, I just need my husband to back into the parking spot because I don’t know how”

That should have been the end of it, but instead, she continued to yell and then my husband told her to “mind her business”. Then she runs over to my site and starts yelling at my friend while she was talking to her 6 year old sun and started to curse at her (I think she thought my friend was me) all while the car was now correctly parked.

This of course got every parent at my site upset as this lady started drunkenly yelling at this boys mom when she was not even a part of the situation which should never have become a situation.

She told us she is “part owner” and screamed that she was calling someone else over to help her and I told her “good, I would love to tell this story to someone else”.

The man speeds over in his golf cart asking what had happened and this “part owner” changed her story at least ten times and told him I said a lot of things that I had not said, including she kept telling him I was cursing at her which I would just never ever do.

We were almost kicked out over this, and I would never recommend this campground to anyone with children or to anyone who does not know how to back into a parking spot because you will be screamed and curses at in front of your children.

2 years ago my friends and I stayed at this campground and had a wonderful time so we decided to book here again this weekend 8/2-8/5.

Yesterday (8/3) as my wife and I were returning from the store she pulled off to the side by our campsite so I could back the car in (parking was tight and it was just easier to back in). In the process of parking this woman, who claims to be part owner, started screaming at my wife that we can’t park off on the side. My wife stated we weren’t and that she needed me to back the car in. As I’m backing up she started getting closer to our site continuing to scream we can’t park there at my wife, at this point I’m now annoyed so I said “we weren’t parking there, mind your business”. At this point the woman lost her mind and started cursing off my wife, my friends wife (in front of their 6yo kid), my other friends wife, and repeatedly yelled in my face that I’m “white trash” basically spitting on me.

At one point another guy who worked there came over to see what was going on and all 10 of us told him the same story while this “part owner” changed her story of what happened maybe 8 times. We were threatened to be kicked out multiple times as I was still being called white trash for backing my car into a parking spot. We ended up leaving a day early (8/4) and will not be returning to this campsite ever.

My family & I just stayed for a week here, I cannot recommend it enough! The campground is nicely wooded, with ample space between sites. The campground is owned by family who work and manage it themselves, and their love for it shines through! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, and the campground is meticulously maintained. I absolutely recommend the kayaking, the Winding River is truly unique, but also a relaxing paddle. I love that the campground maintains it in a wild and natural way. My two kids loved the playground & pool.
There is so much to see in the surrounding area - lots of hiking & biking trails, birding & wildlife! NJ is such an interesting mix of pines & oaks, with lots of sand.
Winding River Campground is honestly the first campground I can say I would like to return to!
