We spend two nights in Joshua Tree and it was everything we hoped for. Travis filled our brains with information and kept us safe and comfortable as we made our way through incredible landscapes. We went in being very aggressive with our plan and Travis did an amazing job of paying attention to how we were holding up and made pivots exactly when they were needed to ensure our hike remained fun and the right amount of challenging. Would we hike Joshua Tree again, hell yeah! Would we do it with Travis....we wouldn't do with anyone else! If you are considering Wandering Mojave, stop considering and just book.

I had a wonderful experience at Joshua Tree National Park with Travis! The hiking guide I was originally assigned was injured and wasn’t able to take me out on my hike, these things happen, especially with active people. But Travis took full responsibility for ensuring that I still had an amazing hike. He was able to come up with a creative solution on the fly during a holiday weekend! The hike he provided was interesting with a tremendous amount of information on the area and details about the terrain and plant life.

I booked half-day hiking for me (45) and my child (13) at the Joshua Tree NP with Wandering Mojave, which exceeded our expectations.
Communication pre-trip was easy, and our hike felt very tailored to our requests (flora and views).
Wandering Mojave was able to coordinate transportation to the park, and the whole day was smooth and focused on appreciating the wonders of Joshua Tree National Park.
Our guide Travis was terrific, keeping both of us engaged and comfortable. We saw a lot of flora, Travis's knowledge of botany was impressive, and we were lucky to see animals, hieroglyphics, signs of previous human activities, and different rocks and rock formations.
Overall a fantastic experience and a happy teenager.

Travis was awesome. We didn’t really know what to expect with the hike, but Travis made this hike one to remember. He was very knowledgeable with the area and the plant life. The coolest part of the hike was that he helped us rock climb on the wall and individually helped every one of us up the wall. My friends and I were impressed. If your looking for a tour guide Travis is your guy!! He’s awesome and you can tell that he is really passionate about what he does. SO MUCH FUN!!! Worth every penny.

Typically, when my wife and I travel to an unfamiliar place. we do a lot of research to help us determine a plan. However, for our trip last November from Illinois to Joshua Tree, where I had come to run a half marathon outside the national park, we had no agenda. We found that, though my wife is a plant person, the flora of the high desert was foreign to her midwestern eyes, and we had no sense of the fauna, geology, and sociology of this new area. Because we were overwhelmed by generic articles about the expanse of desert life, we queried the host of our cabin who suggested Travis, for he had "hiked every bit of this area."

Thus, we met our skilled guide. Before setting up a hike, Travis informally chatted with us to assess our desert interests, previous experiences, abilities, and expectations. As a result, our hike into the hills was perfect. Travis focused on the plants, answering dozens of questions and referring to his multiple resources when needed. He taught us about the terrain and geology, along with many anecdotes and his own personal observations, as we made our way along trails through the high desert.

Realizing our unfamiliarity with the conditions of the area, Travis knew how to pace us, taking breaks or deciding the best pathways to use. He even provided the right snacks to bring along for us. He engaged us with his expertise for the entirety of our allotted time, also addressing our interests in the communities surrounding the park, their history and lifestyles.

Travis is a conservation activist and his passion as a naturalist was evident and admirable. He enlightened us regarding the park’s current challenges and how they might be alleviated by government as well as community activism.

As we parted ways at the end of the hike, we were grateful for the time and expertise that Travis had shared with us. Indeed, when we asked him, as tourists, for a restaurant suggestion, he chose a place that was a local favorite with ties into the history of the area, and it was exactly the kind of place we were looking for. We could not have asked for a more satisfying day.

One of my best hiking days ever! Travis was an excellent guide and we had such a good time together with much interesting conversation. I really appreciated his love for the desert and the time he took to teach me about the different plants and animals rock formations and everything that we were seeing. I'm really looking forward to my next hike with him and I highly recommend his services!

I recently returned from my first trip to Joshua Tree and my guided hike with Travis was without a doubt the highlight of my time there!

I booked a half-day hike with the intention of exploring parts of the park that would be otherwise inaccessible to a fairly novice hiker based off the park map alone. Travis was extremely communicative from the beginning of the planning process and throughout the time leading up to our hike. We were able to explore various features of the park such as rock formations, canyons, and even a prime peak for sunrise. Travis has a wealth of knowledge about park history, geographical features, and the numerous flora and fauna within Joshua Tree – I learned SO much!

If you have the time, I recommend booking at least a full day hike, optimally two full days of hiking, so that you can explore different regions of the park since it is quite large. I cannot wait to wander the desert with Travis again at my next Joshua Tree visit!
