Amazing. We have been booking at the River House for nearly 5 years, several times a year. The cabin is comfortable, fully stocked in the kitchen and bathroom. Has great outdoor seating, an impressive BBQ and outdoor fireplace. But best of all… it’s completely dog friendly. The house is fully fenced and has locked gates. The property is very big and puppy has plenty of room to explore. Once outside the fenced area is the Kern river. You have complete access to the water from the property. We keep puppy on leash as there is plenty of wildlife that she would chase. Highly recommend Carol and her husband who respond immediately to even the smallest issues.

This was my second time staying in Kernville at one of Carol and Rob’s properties. The moonshine cabin is the dream! Carol and Rob think of everything - they set me up to have the most perfect stay. This spot right by the river is so magical. And a short walk to the shops in town. I will definitely be coming back. From the wonderful coffee time by the river in the morning to a sunset hot tub this place is really a slice of heaven

This spot was amazing! I’ve stayed at the house next door and it was also amazing. This spot had a few more enhancements though that I really loved. There was an outdoor fire pit, hammock and hot tub that really made me not want to leave the house. The sound of the rapids all night was mesmerizing. Rod and carol are awesome hosts too who gave the best info for any outstanding questions I had. If you have two cars you can easily shuttle up the river 4 miles and simply float back to the house which took around 2 hours, pending on how often you stop for chill river breaks. Overall 10/10 and will most definitely come back next time I need to escape the LA craziness! Below are a few pics right from the property. Everyone go and book this spot if you’re looking for some blissful R&R or some tubing adventures. Thanks rod and carol!

A gem within a gem.
Kernville is about 3 hours slightly North East of Los Angeles and it is one of the best local places to escape for a rest & recharge. It is a small town with basically everything you need to accomplish the above.
The plan: Book a night, or three, at River Willow Cabin. Get out of LA early to avoid traffic and then take your time strolling through the picturesque vistas of the Mojave as you head into town. Stop at the Sierra Way Market and stock up on essentials. Drop by the Kern River Brewing for a Growler then make sure you arrive when Check-In opens and settle in.
The owner's attention to detail helps transport you to a slower pace, an earlier and easier time. Disconnect from your phones, grab one of the many books and recline on the porch while you settle in for your great escape.
The river, and its private beach await, where the rolling sound of water effortlessly steals your day. They have tubes and all the towels and shoes you may need for your family. Plop yourself in the river and ducks might just join you.
If you're so inclined, slip on your hiking boots and visit one of the nearby recommended hiking trails. The Kern Valley has some beautiful land and nature to gaze upon. Get back in time to take another refreshing dip in the river and then as the sun sets, enjoy some of that fresh grub over the bbq and don't forget to grab stuff for S'Mores.
Finally, when the stars come out, and trust me, they come out, slip into the Cedar soaked Hot Tub and let the smell and sounds of nature captivate.
Get a great night sleep, wake-up early, and if you're like me take a 10-minute drive to enjoy the sun rise over Lake Isabella. Head back to the Cabin and enjoy a cup of locally brewed coffee with a view and repeat above.
This is a special place.

Carol and Rod go above and beyond, what more can I say.
The house is picturesque with a beautiful view of the river and amazing architecture in the yard. Every detail is curated inside and out. The home is so comfortable. From kitchen necessities to stylish decor, this house has everything. My husband and I love to stay in just one floor for a romantic getaway or we include the whole extended family with the full Big View House.
Again, Carol and Rod are superb hosts that think of every last thing. (Including a phenomenal online guide book with ALLLL the recommendations you could ever need). I cannot recommend this home/hosts more.
Book now. Happiness awaits.

Since I rediscovered the beauty of the Kern River, I have stayed at the Kern River House on multiple occasions. The house is meticulously cared for and completely curated to make your stay a fabulous experience. The sound of the Kern River is soothing and offers a glimpse into the wonders of the mountains. The town of Kernville is welcoming, easygoing and offers something for everyone. The Sierra Gateway Market is amazing and wonderfully stocked for preparing delicious meals at the property.
I am already working on a return visit to Kernville.

We have made two visits to the Kern River House - both wonderful experiences. The home itself is beautifully designed and appointed. You will not lack for any amenity! Rod is the designer and Carol is the landscaper. In fact, on both of our visits we were so comfortable and relaxed in this beautiful environment, that we were not very motivated to get out and do things - although there are plentiful things to enjoy in the environs. Hanging out on the comfy deck or upper porch, listening to the river and watching the rafters and kayakers pass by - what better way to take a break from the city and all its 'requirements.' On our second visit we brought our German Shepherd, and he had a great time exploring all the levels of landscaping below the house. We've always gone as two couples, but next time I think we will just rent the lower apartment because it is all we need as a single couple. Many thanks, Carol and Rod, for providing such a lovely getaway.

We had such an amazing stay at the River Willow cabin! This is our second visit to the cabin and it’s even better this time with the cedar soaking tub.
If you’re a fly fisherman there are some good spots a close walk away, and if not, the river is still right there and amazing 🙂
Rod is such a great host and went the extra mile to help us when we were having car troubles.
We highly recommend staying here if you’re coming to the Kern 🙂
