BEWARE!!!
Description on their properties are incorrect. A relaxing getaway turned to horrible nightmare! The photos posted are definitely Photoshop’d. As my family entered the home, the distinctive odor was apparent, the lighting was dark, and the up keep of the property are outdated. I contacted the number provided during the stay, and was not at all helpful. I listed all the issues from from the lights in one of the bathroom not working (there were other lights in the home that were also not working) - to the shower, not turning off. Lucky for the home owners, my bf is a licensed electrician, who ended up having to troubleshoot and fix the issue so that we can have some lighting in the bathroom. The listing also failed to add that there is an owner’s unit at the bottom floor. I thought I rented the entire home? I sure paid for one. I’m beyond livid for the amount I paid for this property - definitely over priced!

I have left voicemails to the number listed for surf city rentals and I have not received a call back.

Our experience with Surf City was excellent. We worked with Carl and rented a long term unit. He was prompt, professional and postive! We had a few small issues that were delt with quickly. If we needed anything or had any questions Carl handled it! We would recommend Surf City and use them again in the future.

Ants everywhere! The view is amazing, but when there are ants in your bed the cost of this rental doesn’t seem to align. I see other people complained and it clearly hasn’t prompted any action from them. I’ve lived on the beach and you do have to constantly spray. That is definitely not happening here. The fireplace didn’t work and neither did the washer/dryer. So with all of those issues, no real beach items and ants in beds, all over the kitchen and bathroom I would have to say if you don’t want to give off the impression of a D-list apartment building fix these issues, otherwise it seems like a money grab.

Had a great experience renting the Sunny Cove cottage from Surf City Rentals. They were extremely responsive, and the rental itself was spotless. We asked last minute if the rental was available for an additional night, one day prior to our original check in, and they had the rental ready for us within a few hours. The rental itself was great - and we loved all the authentic detail the owner kept within the beach house. We will definitely rent this adorable place again. Not to mention a block from the beach!

I had the worst customer experience of the past few years (in any business /service area) from the "24/7 concierge" Jody. We were locked out of the home and needed help. On the phone with me she was glib, condescending, and passive aggressive while explaining to me that getting locked out of the keyless entry home was my own fault. She insisted that the house notes contained warnings against lock out and how to avoid my situation. After this call I reviewed every page of the binder in the house as well as the Airbnb welcome email with house instructions and nowhere, not once, was there any warning about the lock out risk. Truly terrible and disappointing experience.

[update] The owner has just responded. She is not telling the truth. I attempted to write a restrained review and not share the full extent of how unprofessional and poorly managed the customer experience was. I stand by what I wrote and the resolution of the problem my mother and I found ourselves in was not nearly so easy, respectful, or pleasant (or emotional on our part) as the owner is seeking to portray it in her reply.

We were cancelled on after planning a very special family event that hinged on a place to stay in Capitola. Now there are not any alternatives for us (8 people). Huge disappointment. Be wary when booking with Surf City, make sure you have a solid back up!! And an update... my daughter came down with Covid which by mandate of CA disallows us to travel, and they will not give us a refund. So Surf City can cancel at any time but the renter who came down with Covid can't cancel. Seems "unfiar". We are now speaking with AirBNB to receive the refund. Bad situation ALL the way around!!!!
