First time staying here, wasn’t sure what to expect. The owner was wonderful! She was helpful, considerate, and it definitely showed that she cared about her customers and their experience at her motel. The room was spacious, included a microwave and mini fridge, very clean, fresh linens day of customer arrival, and comfortable. The wall decor was older, but furniture was comfy, and floors were nice enough I felt comfortable barefoot in room. I will definitely be a repeat customer at this cozy motel.

The new owner was very pleasant!
I grew up in this area and it is very rural so the location "is what it is". The Prairie Winds Motel has been in Carthage for a LONG time. If you need a place to stay in Carthage or the surrounding area...this works. No, it's not a 5 start hotel, but, it works...there is hot water, refrigerator, microwave, beds, TV, blow drier, and even cereal and coffee available. Honestly, what more do you need? Having family in this area, I will be returning to the Prairie Winds and would have no issues staying there again.

This place was a great find. Don't let the outside deter you the room I had was extremely clean and comfortable. I stayed multiple days and the rates were pretty fair. Also the lady that owns this place is really nice and helpful. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Very rarely I meet such a nice, caring and warm person as the lady owner of the motel. With a neat smile, she made me feel like a truly welcomed guest in her motel. Being there was a really nice experience, the rooms were clean , the beds were fresh and you can see and feel that someone cares about guests. THANK YOU !

As far as cheap hotels go, this one wasn't bad. The room was big and the bed was comfortable. It had a fridge and microwave. And it was surprisingly clean and in good repair considering how outdated everything is. Cons: the fan in the bathroom was super loud and it was connected to the light so they came on together. The AC was loud too and would wake my son up everytime it would turn on. There are also no plugs by the bed which is good cause you won't stay up all night playing on your phone, but bad if you use a CPAP. Overall, I would stay here again especially considering the price and there isn't much else in the area.
