This place is for all nature lovers. The autumnal colourful leaves, the mud on your sleeves! Not for your average wheelchair user unless you like to get muddy and have an all terrain wheelchair/ scooters. The lakeside walk was a challenge, but manageable wouldn't recommend doing alone as the gates are awkward to open and to shut. Plus, trying to push through mud and sheep dung wasn't a nice experience! But the scenery was breathtaking. The house was closed, so we didn't experience that part. It is better to do when the weather is dry and less muddy!
They need a pedestrian traffic light/ zebra crossing as it's a busy road to cross from the car park to the house with speeding vehicles. Especially if you're a wheelchair user or have children with you.

We couldn't go in the house itself as dogs not allowed in so just went around the gardens very impressed some of the gates were stiff to open we had to come back on ourselves near the end of the walk due to the cows in the field, there was no way we were going to chance it having our dog with us ,but apart from that we enjoyed ourselves. I will also add that the lovely lady who checked our tickets did forewarn us that the farmer moves his cattle around and that we might have to double back on ourselves so we were warned . The weather was lovely and warm so the experience was a pleasant one not sure if it had been raining has some of the paths were quite boggy and slippy but we had a nice time .We parked over the road from the house and the parking was the sort where you pay when you are ready to leave which is a brilliant way has we knew if we were clock watching it would spoil our visit

Lovely gardens. We did the full walk round the gardens and Lakeshore, about 1.5 miles in total. Tea room was great too

Had a really enjoyable afternoon here in the gardens and by the lakeside. Older kids (ages 10 and 14) really enjoyed the Forest Hazard Course in the adventure play and we all had a go at the Steeplechase. We appreciated the tranquility of the bee garden and generally just exploring as we headed towards the lake.

Visited in late September 2021, on a day when the house wasn't open, but the grounds were. £4.50 entrance fee, payable at the Old Sawmill Tearoom in the Forestry England "Dodd Wood" car park opposite side of A591. Show your ticket at the gate house. Dogs welcome (on lead as sheep and cattle in fields). Beautiful walk through mature pine and rhododendrons, pasture and meadows to the lakeside and around in circular route. Stayed about two hours - slow easy ramble.

Was a nice walk, we visited on a Saturday but didn't realise the house isn't open everyday. The parking next to the main entrance and the cafe is not included in ticket price as its part of the forestry, the cafe staff not that helpful however the lady at the start of Mirehouse itself explained the whole route and was very friendly .

This might have to be my favourite place in the lake district. It's simply beautiful. Unfortunately due to restrictions i couldn't go in early summer but even now, it's just beautiful to walk around. It takes you around the gardens and through the woods, beside the small adorable cottage. It gives such cottagecore vibes. Amazing!

What a find this was. Staying in Loweswater with friends who were going on a big hike so I visited Mirehouse Gardens. Make sure you go in the Bee Garden. I was in there a good hour eating my lunch and watching the birds. Jays, woodpeckers, goldfinches to name a few, such an array of bird life. A great place to stroll around if you need a rest from hills and fells! Also lovely little cafe where you park directly over the road from Mirehouse Gardens. Spent 4 hrs there so worth every penny of the £4.50 entry fee. Unfortunately the house wasn't open the day I visited so I will be back!
