2024 marked a great year in my adventuring life. I reached out to Joey Carrara and formulated a plan to find an incredible Alpine summit with my closest friends. In 9 months, Joey and Will Yermal brought 4 flat landers with no ice climbing/glacier experience up to speed with 3 progressive trips to get us all ready to tackle Alpamayo in Peru. They proved you can teach old dogs, new tricks by brining the four of us ranging in age from 52-62 up to speed physically, technically, and as a team to head into an aggressive 16 day expedition into high alpine zone, technically challenging glacier travel, and wonderful vertical ice climbing. Each of their trips and guidance in between, increased our skills/confidence/fitness—-all while paying great attention to living in the culture of each country we traveled to. The cultural immersion in Mexico and Peru was fantastic, thanks for great planning guys. These guys are great climbers, drivers, tour guides, and exceptional human beings.

Joey and Will are fantastic! We booked them for a crevasse rescue class before a trip to Rainier. They tailored our class to the ability level and goals of our team, and were able to adapt our class schedule to poor weather conditions. These guys are awesome, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Will definitely be booking them again in the future.

When I first met Joey, I had spent six weeks being taught by a friend who was an avid rock climber, but not a teacher. We spent hours in my living room reviewing knots. I never got the knack. When he brought me to a Climbing gym, we skipped any kind of orientation and I found myself gazing up at a towering wall and feeling very much out of my depth. Belaying was choppy. I couldn’t get the motion to smooth out, my leverage was weak, and I was nearly jerked off the ground. The take away was less than empowering. Luckily, I decided to keep trying.

I met Joey accidentally, when my original Guide got sick the night before and he filled the spot. I was tempted to reschedule, as I had zero connection with Joey and when he called me up - en rt from another guided adventure - he seemed way too happy and devoid of stress to be true. The weather had changed and he wanted to change our climb. I was so dubious! But the second we met up in the parking lot the next morning, the fun adventuring began. An excellent combination of laid-back and totally aware, Joey has an innate ability to create an environment where you feel safe, at-ease and thus open to learning new things. What never took in six weeks of trying to learn knots, I learned in ten-minutes with Joey, and it stuck. And that’s a perfect reflection of all the other climbing skills I’ve learned on the rocks with him. His passion, understanding, teaching capabilities, and light-hearted nature make him such a gem of a guide! I recommend booking Joey while he’s still available, because I think he’ll be scheduling way out very soon. ?

Will and Joey are the best guides! They are communicative and take input from customers to give them what they want from their services. Truly a team for the people. I took a glacier crevasse rescue class from them and learned how to set up 3-1 and 5-1 rescue systems. They are very hands on and will let you know when you are doing something wrong and how to fix it. Highly suggest taking advantage of their knowledge! Their delica van also adds to “adventure” experience as well, I mean who doesn’t wanna ride in one of those.
