Where do I begin This was my second extended safari and I traveled with Hornbill to Uganda for chimp trekking in Kibale National Forest, a plains safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, a boat safari in Kazinga channel and gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Each of the animal experiences was so unique and memorable.
From the moment I landed until I flew home 12 days later, Hornbill handled everything. Even before arriving in country, working with the team at Hornbill to book the trip was easy and their pre-trip materials are excellent.
Our guide, Simon, was extremely knowledgable about each place we visited, I don't know how he has so many birds memorized! In addition to technical knowledge he was also helpful in arranging anything we requested for making a special stop, shopping, etc.
The accommodations arranged by Hornbill in Uganda were excellent - they have clearly done their homework to find lodges and camps close to the trekking sites so there's less travel time on those days. In addition to good locations, the food and friendliness and service of the staff at each property was also impressive. While the accommodations are quite comfortable with electricity and sometimes wi-fi in the cottage and cabins, someone on this trip should be comfortable with nighttime nature noises and likely some bugs.
A note, the roads in Uganda are mostly unpaved and some areas can be extremely bumpy in the jeep. Something to consider when deciding how much to fly or drive during your safari.
Book the trip now. And book it with Hornbill!

We had the most incredible day at Murchison Falls National Park, and it’s one we’ll never forget! The weather was perfect—80 degrees and sunny—as we embarked on our second game drive. Picture yourself standing through the roof of a safari Land Cruiser, camera in hand, surrounded by the breathtaking savannah and Africa’s iconic wildlife.

The highlight of the day? Spotting 7 majestic lions and a leopard! Our driver from Hornbill Treks and Safaris was absolutely phenomenal—channeling his inner action hero to ensure we had the best views and unforgettable memories.

This safari is an absolute must for anyone visiting Uganda. Stunning landscapes, incredible wildlife, and a team that goes above and beyond to make the experience magical. Truly a 5-star adventure!

Ally was a wonderful guide, and was attentive to our every need. The lodges were perfect and due to Ally’s expertise we saw every animal up close. It was a bucket list trip that went so perfect.

From the moment I landed at Entebbe airport, Hornbill was there to make this adventure one to remember for the rest of my life. Hornbill delivered everything they promised from a visit to the Ziwa rhino sanctuary to chimpanzees at Kibale. All excursions were planned for me with trusted, top notched professionals and I experienced all the wildlife encounters promised. The grand finale was spending two days Gorilla Trekking in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest where I experienced two different families of Mountain Gorillas. I cannot put into words the life changing experiences Hornbill provided on this journey.
The Hornbill guides are top notch and accommodating to your every need to make your trip a most memorable one.
I highly recommend Hornbill for your safari adventures. You will not be disappointed.

I was fortunate enough to visit Rwanda with Hornbill African Safaris in November of 2024. This was truly a life-changing experience, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. This was my first time in Africa, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in such a vibrant, welcoming, and resilient country.

The itinerary was incredible—from gorilla trekking (an absolute bucket-list moment!) to a safari where I saw the Big 5, golden monkeys, and so much more. Every experience was carefully curated, and I loved learning about Rwanda’s wildlife conservation efforts, including meeting the inspiring gorilla doctors.

Our guides, Medi and Ibrahim, were phenomenal. Traveling with them as a father-and-son duo added such a unique touch. Medi’s knowledge of birds was mind-blowing, and Ibrahim’s personality and humor brought so much joy to the journey. They truly made the trip unforgettable.

Beyond the adventure, it was deeply meaningful to learn about Rwanda’s history, including the genocide, and to witness the country’s incredible recovery. The warmth, strength, and unity of the Rwandan people were inspiring and humbling.

The hotels we stayed in were exceptional, with the kindest hospitality from staff, and visiting so many properties gave me a strong understanding of what makes Rwanda a world-class destination.

Rwanda was the perfect introduction to Africa—its natural beauty, rich culture, and accessibility reminded me of destinations I love like Costa Rica and Hawaii. It’s an ideal gateway for anyone curious about exploring the continent, and I can’t wait to recommend it to my clients.

Thank you, Andrew, Elizabeth, Medi, Ibrahim & Hornbill, for an unforgettable adventure. I’m still in awe of everything I experienced and excited to book more trips to Rwanda in the future!

I spent 8 days in Tanzania on safari with my daughter and another week in Rwanda (including gorilla and moneky trekking) and my trip was absolutely incredible from start to finish! The support from the Hornbill staff was amazing. An aviation specialist meet us in arrivals and helped guide us through customs/immigation where possible. Such a huge help in a foreign country that requires visas.
The driver/guide we had in Tanzania was exceptional, and our animal sightings were spectactular! Becuause of his knowlede and experience he knew exatly where to go and how to get the best chance of seeing the animals in action- and we certainly did.
The accommodations/food/service were all exception throuhout Tanzania.

Rwanda was equally amazing, and the gorilla trekking so well organized. Our accommodation at Virguna Lodge was exceptional.
This was a life-changing trip all around, and exceeded my expectations in every way. If you plan to see East Africa - do not look at anyone else other than Hornbill! They are a local company that knows exactly how to plan the best expreience in these countries.

We had an amazing trip with Hornbill! Andrew took very good care of us from the time we started planning until we were back home. The guides were excellent - professional, knowledgable, and fun. The trucks were clean and comfortable. The lodge Andrew chose for us was fantastic (Mahogany Springs) and the gorilla trekking was as awesome as people tell you it is going to be. They listened to us in regards to how hard we wanted our trek to be and everyone loved seeing the gorillas. The cultural experiences were also outstanding. Hire yourself a porter - they are invaluable and you are supporting the local community. We highly recommend traveling with Hornbill - you will be very well cared for from start to finish.

My husband and I just returned from our two week safari + Zanzibar honeymoon in Tanzania, all thoughtfully booked and managed by Hornbill Treks & Safaris. It was by far the most flawless, memorable, and personal trip I've ever had the pleasure of taking. To start with, as a business owner myself, it brought me great comfort to know that I was working with a business that has both international reach but also local boots on the ground--ensuring that they not only 'know their stuff' but that they also really care about their customers and the local community that they engage with. Communication was incredibly personal and prompt both in planning and during our trip.

Once we got to Tanzania, I was blown away not only by the hospitality that greeted us both from our Hornbill guide, Michael, but also that we encountered at every stop along the way. Each lodge and hotel that was recommended to us was not only locally owned (important in supporting local businesses + the local economy), but the teams at each were all fun, personable and incredible hospitality professionals who provided luxury, comfort, and service.

I've already referred a few friends to Hornbill, but if you're looking to do a trip or Safari anywhere in East Africa, I highly recommend that you reach out to Elizabeth, Andrew, and the Hornbill team to book a dream journey!
