This was our second time staying at the great island inn!
Our stay was absolutely perfect! If you’re looking for a place that feels like home but offers the charm of a boutique stay, this is it. The apartment was beautifully designed, clean, and full of thoughtful touches, from the fully equipped kitchen to the in room washer & dryer, which was a lifesaver after our daily beach walks (rain or shine!).
The location couldn’t be better! It’s tucked away in a quiet, historic neighborhood, yet it’s just minutes from downtown Portsmouth and Kittery, either a quick drive or a gorgeous 20-30 minute walk past historic homes, the waterfront, and over the bridges. The best part? The beach is only two blocks away with stunning lighthouse views!
The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the space had so much character and attention to detail. Plus, having Islander cafe right downstairs was such a treat, amazing coffee and delicious breakfast without having to go far.
If you’re looking for a peaceful, comfortable, and well-located place to stay, I can’t recommend Great Island Inn enough! We’ll definitely be back. ❤️

My wife and I just spent a weekend at the Inn just last week, We cannot over emphasize how wonderful the Great Island Inn was. The building is c.1820 and fits into the town perfectly. We chose room #5 for the river/water view. It was fantastic. The room was immaculate and very well appointed. The decor of the room and the hallways was a perfect match to the quaint coastal town. The amenities and comfort supplies and goodies made us feel at home and very welcome during our stay. Radiant heated bathroom floors?! Yes please. Nice touch. Relaxation and comfort are clearly a top priority of those who created this amazing hideaway. If you are wondering about paying a visit to the Great Island Inn, just do it. You won't regret it.

This is an outstanding accommodation. It is reasonably priced, very clean and in good condition, and the owners are very responsive and helpful (by email) and offered great restaurant recommendations. Quiet, comfortable, convenient. Lovely place. I stayed on the third floor, which requires reasonable fitness, no elevator. Great town, too!

Truly one of the best places we have ever stayed. I want to be clear about how much we loved this place.
First, the scents! Never underestimate the power of good smells. The lobby had one of those capillary incense bottles, and the bathrooms were well stocked with Malin+Goetz hair products, body wash, moisturizer, soaps and we were OBSESSED! I’ve never felt more refreshed and calm after a shower.
The location was perfect: nautical theme, view of the water, narrow, cozy streets.
The toilet had the water-saving flush mechanism I’ve only seen in Europe, the water pressure in the shower was great.
Soft, comfy bed, easy parking, a white noise machine?!? And easy temperature control. Access to the washer and dryer was amazing and the kitchen was very well stocked. I will be here again!!!

What a spectacular place! We stayed 2 nights in September for a quick vacation and loved the location of the Inn, clean and well designed rooms, wide parking spots, and so much more! We need to come back and stay longer next time, kitchen was great and there’s a washer/dryer in the room!!
Just 5 min to Portsmouth, we loved being close to downtown. There’s even an awesome cafe next door to grab your coffee/breakfast!

So happy we chose the Great Island Inn for a two-night stay in September. The room on the top floor was well appointed and comfortable. The hosts thought of everything. Communication was top notch, and their recommendations were on the money. We enjoyed coffee and breakfast each morning from the Islander Cafe. We look forward to returning. Thank you for a lovely stay!

We loved every minutes in the Great Island Inn: beautiful decor, very clean place, very well furnished. |A lot of nice attentions as the lovely postals and pencils in the lobby. Doug and Abby are very easy to join and the way they send you details about you stay is very gentle.||The bed was super comfortable and the sofa too. We enjoyed using all the facilities. Coffee is super quality and the kitchen is super well furnished.|We bought our breakfast at the Islander Café and ate it in the backyard: it was a very agreeable time on a sunny morning!||Walks in the neighborhood are very peaceful and absolutely beautiful and safe!||Anyway we plan to book a room next time we will travel to New Castle which is one of our favorite place on the Coast.
