We were excited to visit, but upon arriving at the entrance, new signs were posted, restricting access. We noticed heavy machinery in the area, which seems to indicate that mining operations are taking place. Unfortunately, we were unable to enter.

Amazing cave this is a lava tube kind of cave so it doesn't go very deep. Do not go here unless you have solid shoes no open Toes or Crocs because the lava field has many sharp volcanic rocks that will cut your feet. When you get to the cave be sure to use at least the strong flashlight or headlamps and gloves will help you from getting cut. The cave itself goes about 10 ft down and about 50 ft deep.

Early Dec. 2023, Troop decided to do some spelunking with Camping. We camped at the foot or entrance of Pisgah Crater and hiked to Glove cave and a few other caves in the area. According to the Geologist with us, the caves and tunnels are whats left after a lava flow. also known as a lava tube. The boys and family that were with us had fun going down the cave, specially this one which extends more than 250ft. The smaller kids even tried to scamper thru the smaller tunnels and had great fun! Moms also had fun! The lower end of this cave also once housed the remains of a Bighorn Sheep in the 70s. look up pisgah.pdf which will give you a nice history of the crater and the surrounding area.
As a safety precaution, wear at least a cap and gloves and hiking shoes so the sharp rocks wont injure you. and at least a face mask as it is dusty in the caverns. its about a 30+ min hike to the caves from the parking.
Also be warned that Pisgah Crater itself is private property and the people who "work" there are really avid about their privacy. You can skirt around the crater to avoid it.

Neat. Hard to get into, but then it opens up. About a 5 min hike in, is the guestbook at the end to sign your name to say you made it πŸ™‚

This cave is really awesome. The cave entrance is a little hard to get into but worth the experience. Would recommend a bright flashlight, hiking shoes, gloves, and a hard hat for its sharp lava rocks. It did take 10 to 20 mins to get to the cave from the road and 5 to 7 mins to the end of the cave. If you don't want to walk longer, drive passed the paved road and it will bring you closer then walking the side of the volcano to get up. It does get warm on the surface so bring some water but gets cool in the cave. There are also smaller caves around the area if you can find them.
