I wouldn't recommend living here disabled and poor. I graduated from this highschool at 17 and moved back as a gay disabled adult. I don't know if it is still happening, but at the time of my residency the city was running illegal City Council meetings. They were trying to censor the medium that I chose to give my public comment in the meetings. I signed up to speak about public safety per city ordinance and constitutional right and, was not allowed to speak. I left because my privacy (invasion of privacy swept under the rug(Thanks for nothing Chief Klatt)) and constitutional rights were not respected! New residents beware! I don't know if they have cleaned up their act, but I still would NOT recommend living there. The city clerk-treasurer was rude and acted as if helping someone ruined her desk time. The deputy clerk-treasurer was awesome at helping with a smile and she acted as if we saved her from desk time. The difference between dealing with the two, in the city clerk's office, was night and day. Watching the illegal activities caused me to start a YouTube page to document them. They didn't enforce Wisconsin public safety laws, but they might now. I even had a one man protest before the invasion of privacy and public safety concerns escalated. Don't swear or you get a disorderly conduct ticket for asking, "What the f&$@ are you doing here?" We had a worker from the city step on our property without notice! He had no identifying articles that identified him as a city worker. We felt threatened because we didn't know who he was or why he had to come on our property since he was only there to do the sidewalk without notice. The city just does what it wants. It doesn't care about all of the people there, only the ones that have money. They expect you to find notices instead of sending them to the people that are disabled or don't use the businesses in town because of the expense. Good luck if you still choose to move here!
