Water in the desert! Always a surprise and a delight. Close to town, but nobody out here on a beautiful Monday afternoon. Curvy up n down one lane road out. There is a roomy campground but I wouldn't advise bringing my big RV. Some very tight turns and wash outs. River is large and flowing and cotton wood trees are plentiful, yellow and huge! We did not go on the road further than the campground, next time!

We went during the week, early May when the daytime temperatures would be no more than 85* . We camped 2 days and had the place to ourselves. Wish it was closer to the water at the campground. Running water and pit toilets were clean. Check the weather! The wind the 1st night was blowing pretty good, but wake up and it was perfect weather.

The pictures do not do this gorgeous place justice. Absolutely breathtaking. Endless things to do & trails to explore, whether on foot, car, or in a 4 wheeler. So glad entry is free (for day hiking). A must go if you're in the area.
I only wish I could find more information about the trails & best places to swim.

It was blistering hot when I was in Safford but I drove to see Bonita Creek and the Gila River at this conservation area. There was a cacophony of birdcage coming from the green treed area (see photos). I would have seen the whole area if I hadn't foolishly gotten low on gas. I definitely plan to return. I so enjoyed the peace--I was the only visitor at the time. Cool month visits are actually recommended.

Love the Riverview campground, stunning views al the way in. Make sure to bring everything you will need. Great camping spots, plenty big, covered picnic tables, clean toilet area, water, trash. Want to stay longer next time.

A nice camping site that has all the amenities, fire place and a picnic table each separated by a good distance, so you will not bother the neighbors camping. An outhouse is close by and very clean. They are multiple water spikets through the camping grounds. The cost to camp there is $7 per camping area.
The road there is primitive and good clearance is recommended. No cell reception in most areas and is very spotty.
