What a wonderful place to stay. Simply beautiful and quiet. Serenity and comfort in one place. Cabin was very clean and has clearly had recent paint. Comfortable colors as far as that goes. Our day guests were equally impressed with the spacious and clean cabin. The provided amenities of body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are very nice products and made it worth not packing my own. The back of our cabin faced the river where you can sit on covered deck and listen to the river flow by. And there is stairs to access the river as well. All the other guests clearly respect the location and every ones desire for quiet and serenity.
This will be an annual trip for us and we will be reserving a cabin here for every future visit we make to see family and friends. Many thanks to staff and management for a great stay

This place is AMAZING, and you couldn't ask for a better location for vacation! The cabins are great for relaxing, and the grounds are beautiful to explore. Location wise - THE PERFECT SPOT!!! We spent time in the Redwood parks and a lot of time in Santa Cruz, which is about 10 minutes away! San Jose is about 45 minutes away with access to the airport ?. Will definitely stay here again!!!

TL;DR communication is horrendous and policy is inflexible and cruel if you are thinking of getting married here.

We held a date for a wedding a year and a half out as we live in England and couldn’t visit for a few months and didn’t want to loose the hold on the date. We paid half as per requested by the venue and visited the site and really did not align with the place. We felt the road behind the ceremony space wouldn’t give the mediation retreat vibe that we were hoping for as it was really busy and in a very residential area. My parents spend a bit of money driving 8 hours each way to
Scope it out but it really is so personal of a decision. And it wasn’t for us for this massive investment and event of a lifetime. So we politely asked for our first installment back minus the cancellation fee of $500. The circumstances in which we paid them was abnormal as we had no way to visit the venue for a few months due to flight prices.

Now we are unable to have a wedding for the foreseeable future, go on holiday, or much else because they’ve locked our money up and won’t respond to 5+ emails sent requesting to have a call, work out a portion of refund, transfer to a hotel booking, or some way to make it so that we are not completely out of $4k.

What was more disappointing than not getting our money back, was not getting a response from both the owner and the staff. Having to send emails for over a month pleading them to get on the phone with us.

My hope is the owner and staff sees this post and has the decency to give a partial refund / communicate and work with us?

4k is a lot of money to hold for over a year out in these extenuating circumstances and it feels as though it lacks compassion or fairness. Like we were tricked into this.

My girlfriend and I stayed here during a weekend gateway ans we really had a lovely stay! Our cabin #9 was spacious, clean. We enjoyed having a warm tea in the porch chairs while listening to the river.

The only thing I think they can improve is upgrading in the mattress to a newer one as ours was way too soft

Other than that we had an amazing stay and we really recommended and we are definitely coming back!!

What a gorgeous, immaculately maintained, cozy and comfortable place to stay. This trip was for us to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Nestled in the middle of the beautiful California Redwoods, Fern River Resort is close to so many fun things to see and do! We hiked in Henry Cowell State Park, took a train ride through the Redwoods with Roaring Camp Railroad, and spent a day at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Then we got to come back and stay in a wonderful, cozy cabin that had great amenities, a cute front porch, a campfire area, and was so clean we could have eaten off the floor! The owners and staff at Fern River Resort are beyond WONDERFUL, and we are already planning our next stay. This was one of the best vacations we have ever had!

Enchanting environment! The cabins were so warm and welcoming. What a beautiful place! The owner is a gift and a wonderful person, the staff was amazing. Best part of our entire trip was here and I miss it already. I cannot wait to return to this paradise!

What a disappointment !
I came here because I stayed here with my late husband and son about 15 years ago.
I rented a lovely cabin this time for myself, my daughter and grandson— as part of a celebration for his birthday. I talked to a charming clerk, Lindsay, and asked for the $30 late check out at 1. She said she would let me know, but she was sure 12:30 would be all right. Evidently she was worried that the weekend might have an effect. She said she would talk to the housekeeping people or management. I heard nothing back— UNTIL a very angry seeming woman, rather scary, smelly ( from 3 feet away) woman banged hard on our door before 11 am checkout in the morning. She insisted we get out immediately because they had a lot of check-ins coming. I explained my conversation when I booked the room. She raged at me that this was impossible. I explained very politely again, and mentioned that my daughter was with the baby and at least until 12:30 was promised. That I paid for this. She said “NO NO NO 12! Ok!!( shouting) 12:30! But the housekeepers will be here! “
We got out at 12:25 waited around in the car till 12:30 reorganizing but no housekeepers, or cleaners arrived. We had cleaned up our cabin, washed dishes and left it in great shape.
What should I see the next day— but a charge for $75— instead of the $30 late check out!
I called three times and left messages.
This tarnished my good memory.
Won’t go again ?

Such a wonderful, peaceful, and cute place! Vacationed in cabin 12 and the room was spacious with a comfortable bed. The room came equipped with a microwave, coffee maker, and dinnerware. This location was also up in the redwoods but also a very close drive to Santa Cruz. Loved it here!!
