Gorgeous pine woods and bayous! There is a nice system of gravel roads to access the area. North Rd. we found to be a little wet and soft, being constructed of pea gravel, where Boar Shoat Rd. and Shallow Lake Rd. were more stable traditional gravel. There was a rough ford also on Shallow Lake Rd. that I would caution against using without a high clearance vehicle. ATV and hiking trails allow you to immerse yourself in this beautiful area. We are not hunters, but I can’t think of a more beautiful place to do that either.
Primitive camping is allowed in several designated areas without a fee, and the Crossett Harbor Rec Site has RV and tent sites with water and electricity. We paid $23/night for a site.
