My recent visit to Charter Senior Living began with such a delightful young lady, Tatiana Bernal, director of sales and marketing, she lead the way through a beautiful setting of assisted and independent living facility with a at home feeling. This is challenging because this will be my mother’s “new home” soon. Tatiana answered all my questions and concerns and made a difficult decision so much easier. Thank you again Tatiana for Being so compassionate and understanding.

The staff is wonderful. Our family member is in their Flourish Care (memory care) and the staff is amazing. So engaging. The whole community is very welcoming and accommodating. We are able to participate in any activities that we care to with our loved one. Very good line of communication with the staff. It’s always tough when you can’t keep your loved ones at home, but having a community and staff like Charter has helped us all with this transition.

Making a decision about assisted living for a loved one is no easy task, but Beth and her team made me feel joy and excitement for my Mom's "next adventure". So many personal touches - signage when we arrived, personal video to Mom - made us feel secure in our choice. The facility is beautiful, the staff are positive and helpful. Our intake nurse, Tangala, was patient and caring, taking any anxieties in the room off the table. I am so excited to see how my Mom thrives in this caring community. This was the best Christmas present we could get!

I cannot say enough wonderful things bout Charter. We are currently moving our mom into the facility and the staff there has been so kind and welcoming. Beth Williams has gone above and beyond for us, answering all our questions both big and small and helping us make informed decisions. The facility is immaculate, there is so much to do both within the building and outside. I am so thankful that we found this place for our mom. I look forward to visiting, we are confident she will be happy there!

Our loved one was a resident in the “Flourish” Memory Care unit at Charter of Orange. The staff are caring, and do the best they can under the circumstances. We are thankful for their dedication and their efforts. But the potential of these resources is squandered by problems with the management. Management chooses to understaff the Memory Care unit, where the most support is needed. Some management, including the wellness director and the memory care director, do care about the residents and their needs. Other management, including its most problematic member – a “medical professional” who should know better – seem either to care more about avoiding liability than serving their residents, or to have responsibilities beyond their abilities, or both. When their sales staff are trying to persuade you to bring your helpless loved one to live there, Charter represents their services and capabilities with glowing claims and reassurances. Before signing up, we were told about their high-tech AUGi video system, that can monitor whether a resident had fallen, or was at risk of an imminent fall in her room.
We were told that AUGi provides the capability for quick assistance. This technology, and representations about how the staff would use it to support our loved one’s needs, were the primary reason we chose Charter. But once our loved one joined as a paying resident, and Charter then had its own responsibilities, management started to sing quite a different tune. Its initially touted capabilities suddenly became debilitated. At that point, certain managers claimed that if our loved one needed assistance, help might be delayed for fifteen or more minutes, and that we could not rely on Charter’s own staff for her safety and well-being. Incredibly, they insisted that we should hire a private full-time personal attendant to supplement Charter’s (newly) self-proclaimed limited capabilities. They also wasted time vehemently resisting easy measures to reduce risk, such as grab bars in the bedroom, with the pointless assertion that a grab bar could not guarantee that our loved one would not fall. How does it make any sense to reject an easy measure to reduce risk on the grounds that it does not eliminate risk? One highly placed part of management was briefly willing to try some helpful measures, but this was quickly displaced by the hair-triggered intervention of that most problematic manager – the “medical professional” who seems to have traded away any nursing soul she might once have had. Meanwhile, the best members of management might leave, and the most problematic are in line for promotion. This place has a cultural problem. It is too much about avoiding responsibility, and too little about serving the needs of its helpless residents who, by the way, are paying for its services. They dress things up with a sales pitch that includes gifts for the prospective resident, and daily “happy hours,” and social outings. But if your loved one needs care and support, this is not a good place. You would do well to look elsewhere.

The community is absolutely beautiful. What makes it a 5 star is the team behind the scenes. Tatiana (Director of Sales) and Tim (Executive Director) are both amazing. Tatiana is a ray of sunshine, so knowledgeable and professional and Tim is a great guy involved in the community. Charter Senior Living of Orange is a gem.
