Cabin By The Pond - Carbondale, Illinois

Stayed in the tiny house on the lake a couple summers ago, while we were touring apartments in Carbondale preparing to move here. It was a really great experience. The owner was extremely kind, the price was super reasonable, the tiny house was lovely, with a deck overlooking the water, a loft bed, and more. It’s close to city events while also providing a rural escape. Totally recommend, and would stay again if we didn’t live nearby now!

Tom is a great guy. Cabin #1 was, honestly, the best experience of my life.

How could you not love jumping in that water at 8 am to wake up? Cabin was perfectly set up for us.

Cabin 3 was great to stay in. Its a one bedroom, very spacious and felt like home away from home. Refrigerator was very clean and bathroom was nicely kept. Loved the hot hot water for great showers. Having washer and dryer in cabin was a nice addition in the bedroom. We were surrounded by many trees, and other cabin neighbors were nearby but not too close. The drive to cabin was further from the road. The cabin had nice big windows that made for great sunlight in the mornings. Tom was a great host. Very friendly, and responsive and gave us tips for how to spend the rest of Sunday our afternoon before we got on the road. We decided to check out Giant City State Park which was so close. We will definitely come back to check out the other cabins! Thanks Tom!

We stayed in cabin 1 for a small Christmas getaway. Tom is an excellent host. The scenery is so beautiful and the cabins are so cozy! Lots of great hiking in the area too. We woke up to six deer passing through in front of our pond. Cabin 1 has an awesome wrap around porch and a deck. I loved sitting on it and enjoying the local soundscape. There are train tracks really close by, which I personally enjoyed as I grew up around trains. Over all we had a great stay and would come here again.

The outside of this cabin is beautiful!! The water is a clear blue and the fishing was great. We caught a lot of big bluegill and bass...nothing over a 1.5 lb though. The whole cabin, inside and out, and very spacious and private. The owner, Tom, was a very nice guy and brought us plenty of firewood for the whole week. I rate this cabin as 3 stars because of the cleanliness and the decor. The master bedroom with carpet had a lot of stains. The decor is very outdated. 3 of the pinball machines didn't work which was a bummer because we were super excited to play them all. Make sure you bring quarters because they cost a quarter each! Overall our family had a great time. We just hoped the cabin would have been cleaner and the decor would have been more updated.

We had a wonderful time staying in cabin 3. Tom is a great host and made our visit pleasant, relaxing and made us feel welcome. The cabin was clean and a delight to stay in. There are a lot of hiking trails and other cool sites to see near by. I will make it a yearly trip, it really was that relaxing and pleasant.

This place was magical and way more than we imagined. Tom is a really great host! We were able to use the beach and the pond as ammeneties during the total eclipse. There was only a handful of wonderful people in our crowd i imagine we are among few to have such a lucky spot. Supernaturally intimate, in a way. I have a 10 year old son, only child and he had a wonderful time with Tom's dog Cody and thoroughly enjoyed his time! He even got a ride around the tube in the pond provided by Tom personally in his boat. He gave us absolutely everything to make this the best trip ever, unforgettable experience we can't wait to come back again and stay at a different spot... Hoping to even bring more of our loved ones to share this little gem with. Thank you Tom and all of your family and friends for having such a great spot to visit! Also. If you visit, ask Tom to clean your headlights for you. 😉

We rented Cabin 2 and 3 for our bridal party in the days leading up to our fall wedding. It gave us a great place to reconnect with old friends by a cozy fire. We actually cancelled our original plans to bar hop for our bachelorette/bachelor parties and just had drinks in the cabins with music. They are spread out enough that you don't have to worry about noise. Tom helped us build a fire and was always nearby if we needed anything but certainly was not intrusive. The fully equipped kitchens saved us so much money by allowing us to cook meals. Being maybe 5 minutes from Arnold's Market meant we had tasty groceries nearby if we needed them. The cabins were gorgeous! It was so nice to be out where no one could find us but also just a few minutes from town when we wanted to see people.
