This was my first time riding a mule. I've had riding horses experience so I figured it shouldn't be hard. It's not. We had a wonderful guide who shared her knowledge about the Grand Canyon and kept us enjoying the ride around the rim of the canyon. The views are gorgeous and it's something else to be out there in nature. We even got our own individual photo taken with the mule.
I strongly would book this ride in advance because of how popular it is. They provide straw hats but I brought mine for more sun protection. And they give you water canteen that's made to hook around the horn of the saddle since you are riding a mule.
I definitely would do it again the next time I visit the Grand Canyon.

I checked in there for mule ride to Phantom Ranch. You have to check in up to 7pm the day before ride or by 5:45am the day of. They weigh you , give you a packing bag and water bladder to fill and hang on the saddle horn , string to use to tie glasses and phone and go to over rules. There's free parking out front but you need a parking pass that they will give if you park overnight. Building is historic and has a small museum and a nice family bathroom around corner. I used this before ride.

Nice building and gal behind the desk. She was super friendly and helped all 5 of us use string to tether our glasses and cell phones so that they wouldn't fall in the canyon on our mule ride. The gentleman working that day should have gone back to bed! Little tough trying to find a parking spot. I wish the tour we were on would have been on time. We try to always be early. I find it annoying when an event says "be here by 1130", making it sound like we are to start at 1130... but the bus doesn't actually come for another 20 minutes.

It is easy to locate, just right in the lobby of the Bright Angel lodge. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

We took the Desert Tour and the Sunset Tour on the same day. It makes for a long day, but well worth it, especially if you don’t have a lot of time in the park.

We did the mule ride down to phantom ranch, stayed overnight down in the canyon, and then did the return mule ride back up to the top. It was phenomenal, what a great life experience! I highly recommend the experience to anyone thinking about doing it. Breathtaking views. Simon and Hunter were great guides.

The rim Vista mule rides are awesome for $160. Good luck getting reservations for the $1200 overnight into the canyon. Friendly staff. Very informative.
