Highly recommend Robert and his Adventure Crafters. You will find that he is at home on the water and has tremendous passion for sea kayaking. Like in many things, there are those who are skilled at what they do but can't quite teach effectively, but Robert can do both! He has been a good listener to my many interests and challenges in being a better paddler, and will adjust as needed to make the best use of the time. I intend to continue taking lessons with him for awhile as he can help you level up quite a bit if you are willing to keep going. We've touched on technique, safety, navigation, outfitting and more. I look forward to doing my homework after each lesson to keep progressing. He is a wealth of experience and knowledge, and generally just good vibes!

Originally I had considered going out and purchasing a kayak and gear from a sporting goods store and just figuring it out along the way. After spending time with Robert fitting me with gear and lessons on land and then water, I soon realized had I chosen my original path I would have been in over my head for sure. Learning how to maneuver without instructions would have been a nightmare. Granted during my first lesson, I went swimming twice but I learned how to get back in while on the water as well as why I fell out both times. (Two separate issues, in my defense, lol)

I can't begin to explain how wonderful it is to work with Robert at Adventure Crafters. He is knowledgeable and oh, so patient. I always felt safe on the water with him. Years later his teachings have stayed with me. I love to paddle and hope to return to the Chesapeake to paddle with Adventure Crafters again soon. I highly recommend that you spend time with Robert if you want to learn to kayak and enjoy the water safely.

My group of four rented kayaks from Adventure Crafters. Communication was easy and Rob made sure everyone had the right size kayaks and was otherwise comfortable. All the equipment was in great shape. The place was easy to find. I highly recommend AC for all of your water adventures! No issues whatsoever.

Robert is a wealth of knowledge about everything kayak. And he has a natural gift in communicating that knowledge. His love of kayaking is infectious. On top of all of that, he is a fantastic person and just great to be around. I would recommend him to anyone, of any skill level, who is interested in kayaking.
