We did the loop trail, it takes around 3 and a half hours to complete, trail is moderate, very visible and well maintained. From the east side you can see the Sierra Nevada. Views are amazing.

Astonishing view on top of the highest mountain in the Bay area. $10 fee for visiting Mt. Diablo State Park. There is a visitor center located at the upper parking lot. You can enjoy the hiking trails or the climbing among the rocks within SP.

90mins from South Bay, it's a awesome park with camping, hiking, biking, and wonderful views.

Our favorite campground is Juniper Campground which has beautiful sunset views!

One can hike to summit on a 1.14mile hike to summit from the juniper campground. It's a moderate difficulty hike.

Definitely visit visitors center, it's has quite rich history of how Mt. Diablo shaped SF Bay Area!

If you find yourself near San Francisco, this destination should absolutely be on your list. The drive up to the summit is long, winding, and offers plenty of opportunities to encounter cyclists along the way, so be sure to take it slow and steady.

Once you reach the top, the views are nothing short of breathtaking—completely worth the effort. The state park is well-equipped with restrooms, and there are various camping spots scattered throughout. Parking is ample, though the roads are narrow, so be prepared for some tight navigation. For those looking to explore on foot, there are plenty of trails for hikers and runners alike. If you are hiking or trekking - it’s a bit of a trek to get there, the journey is part of the adventure though but ensure you have water and have trained for this.

Do note that there is an entry fee to this State Park, but for the stunning vistas and peaceful atmosphere, it’s well worth the price. Whether you’re camping, hiking, or simply taking in the view, this place offers a perfect escape from the hustle of the city.

For any hiking stages. Beautiful scenery all over. There is a large area that has remnants of a fire that took place. Nature ALL over and so many plants to see. Lots of golden gems . I know we will go back. Best to start as early as you can for any of the hikes to get the full experiences. Day use was $6. A pass goes on your windshield. No pets on the trails. No camp fires either as location is also in moderate fire zone currently.

I had the pleasure of hiking the Mary Bowerman Loop at the peak of Mt. Diablo, and it was an experience to remember. The trail offers a perfect combination of moderate challenge and breathtaking scenery.

Starting early in the morning provided the added benefit of cooler temperatures and fewer hikers, making it a peaceful and serene journey. The loop itself is well-maintained and clearly marked, ensuring an enjoyable trek without the worry of losing the path.

One of the highlights was the panoramic view from the peak—absolutely stunning! You can see for miles on a clear day, making the effort to reach the top completely worth it. Along the way, the diverse flora and occasional wildlife sightings add to the charm and beauty of the hike.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a delightful morning adventure, the Mary Bowerman Loop at Mt. Diablo is a must-visit. Don’t forget your camera, plenty of water, and perhaps a light snack to enjoy at the summit.

Drove up to the summit, windy roads with breathtaking views at the Summit. Lots of bike riders so plan to take your time getting up there, the roads are narrow and no passing allowed unless there are bicycle turnouts. Happy to keep the bicyclists safe! Absolutely worth going. The outlook platform from the lighthouse is roomy and nicely done. Beautiful, a panoramic view that on a clear day you can see 360° for miles and miles. Nice Visitors Center and tiny Gift Shop. There is a handicap accessible path named Mary Bowman Trail is wonderful with viewers (binoculars) that are free to look through. Get ready to have your breath taken away…Mount Diablo is stunning.

Not too hard to drive to the top, watch out for bicyclists on the sharing road. It’s looking stunning with 360 degree view. You need a whole day to explore other beautiful picnic areas too. And don’t miss out the City of Rocks on the way down. The water fountain up there is cold and fresh.
