Beautiful, peaceful and clean. I always love to “scape” to this trail whatever I have a chance. Totally recommend, not that long, 1 hour easy of enjoyment.

This is a really great area to park for access to the Campion Trail where you can run, walk, bike, roller blade or ride a scooter. It is conveniently located off the President George Bush Turnpike. There are two very large lots with plenty of parking. There are sidewalks at each parking lot leading to the trail and a beautiful large grassy area to play, exercise or have picnics. There is at least one picnic table and outdoor grill as well as a portable bathroom. It seems most popular on sunny, warm days. The location and parking make it a great place to park for the Campion Trail.

Amazing bike trails, I love coming here! Great spot to get some nature time in and cruise on your bike or just to pull out your camera for some quick photography. Has a few decent spots for r/c cars or r/c planes. Clean and safe.

Lovely trail. A little more than 3.5 miles to and fro. It’s more of forest than a trail.
Some occasional wildlife sightings. Do not engage wildlife and keep distance for your own safety.
The trails are not lit at night. So carry your own lighting.
Lot of fast bikers but most of them are well behaved.
No restrooms inside except the parking lot. Carry your own water and pick up trash.
Many picturesque spots for those reels.

Summers can be hot. Springs are lush.
Area can flood during monsoon. Winters are cold.

Get out there and meet your steps!

Nice place to walk. Trails are paved, wide and clean. Metal blue painted benches on the side at different spots on the trails and in the park. River is not viewable from the Riverside trail unlike the name implies. We get better views of the water on our way back when we decide to leave the paved trail and come via straight elevated path/trail that was not paved.

Sam Houston Trail Park: the hidden gem where nature meets suburban bliss, and my Fitbit actually thanks me for the extra steps. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape without committing to a full-on camping trip, this is the spot.

The trails are paved, well-maintained, and perfect for everything from casual strolls to intense bike rides where you’re trying to act like you’re not out of breath. You’ll get a nice mix of scenic creek views, open fields, and enough shady spots to make the Texas sun slightly less of an enemy. Bonus: there’s plenty of wildlife—birds, squirrels, and the occasional rabbit trying to live their best life while you’re just trying to hit your step goal.

It’s also super dog-friendly, so bring your furry sidekick along for the adventure (because every dog deserves to sniff all the things). Just make sure you’ve got a leash and bags to keep things civilized.

The vibe? Chill, clean, and family-friendly, with just enough people around to feel safe but not overcrowded. Pro tip: hit the trails early in the morning or late afternoon for cooler temps and Instagram-worthy lighting.

Whether you’re jogging, biking, walking, or just sitting on a bench pretending you’re athletic, Sam Houston Trail Park is a solid way to enjoy the great outdoors without driving hours to the middle of nowhere. 10/10 would sweat here again!

Love this place! I get here early to go for a run before work. Never crowded - even in the summer months. Total loop from the parking lot is around 8 miles, but it can go further as the park is connected to campion trail. Highly recommend!

It's definitely a great place to rake a walk or bring your pets. Plenty of parking available. There are a few benches and grills available. There are no restrooms on site, so be aware. They keep the park very clean.
