Parked at danskine Loch and walked the track to the castle. The track is about 75% wet dirt . The walk-in takes you through old growth forest, lots of waterways, and old bridges . The castle still has some above and below ground structures it would have been an impressive building in its day, a nice area for a walk, and well worth a look if you are in the area .

Highlight of my trip to Scotland was this abandoned castle in the middle of the woods. I believe the huge trees around the castle are Beech, had to wonder if the legends of Hugh de Giffard being a necromancer were related to some continuation of Druidic or Norse traditions. Felt like a sacred Grove with so many trees in climax growth phase in the area around the castle.

First parked at golf course and asked permission, they said no, they advised us to go to danskine Loch, parking available there. Walked to castle, very poor mobile signal for maps, but found it eventually. Unable to access the lower parts as gated off now. Very muddy and uneven paths, quite boggy in places. But worth a look if you check the castle history first, Interesting, didn't come across any goblins but we did get massively lost, so perhaps some goblin magic was cast upon us.

Great walk and great history, make sure you take water and snacks we done 7 mile to make the most of it, I parked away from what maps say, instead use lay-by or golf course, watch grimlife collective video on YouTube for tips too

What an amazing ruin. My 8 year old was pooping her pants the whole time we were there. It has an eerie feel to it. Take time to research the history before visiting. It's very interesting. We asked permission to park at the golf course & walk through the grounds.

You can park at the local golf course but remember to ask permission from the lovely lady who runs the place. She was nice enough to give directions to the ruins which you will need, as the castle is well hidden in the woods. As you approach it, you can sense a mysterious energy. It feels like almost the wizard is still here.
